Dyno Nobel turns on the tap for Moranbah

Dyno Nobel’s site in Moranbah has boosted the town water supply with a donation of 50 megalitres of water.

Isaac Regional Council said the Incitec Pivot business made the generous contribution of their extra allocated water that would otherwise remain in their reserves.

To mark the occasion, the council’s Water and Waste Standing Committee chair Simon West and director Gary Murphy presented an official letter of gratitude to Dyno Nobel Moranbah site manager Peter Henderson.

Mayor Anne Baker said the township of Moranbah would use up to 2800 megalitres a year on average.

Coalfields hub marks 50 years

Tales of the good old days echoed across the coalfields during Moranbah’s 50th birthday celebrations over the long weekend.

Thousands of locals and visitors rolled up to over 12 planned events to pay tribute to the history and people that built the town.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said Moranbah became ground zero for past and current residents and workers to gather and share their stories of the last five decades of Moranbah.

Dam dredging to aid Clermont water supply

Contractor Dredging Solutions has been engaged to remove 12,000 cubic metres of built-up sediment in Theresa Creek Dam at Clermont by the end of May.

The $1.36 million project to dredge Theresa Creek Dam will help future proof Clermont’s water security, according to Isaac Regional Council.

Mayor Anne Baker said the council had partnered with the Queensland Government to bring these works into fruition.

Isaac announces $1m COVID-19 recovery plan

Isaac Regional Council has approved a million-dollar COVID-19 strategic recovery plan to be implemented over the next two years.

Mayor Anne Baker said the plan, unanimously adopted at a recent council meeting, had 50 separate strategies to be applied across the Isaac region.

“This longer-term strategic recovery plan complements our shorter-term tactical and strategic COVID response and recovery framework implemented in March, in the very early days of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Cr Baker said.

Council hails ‘vote of confidence’ in local mining

Isaac Regional Council has welcomed the approval of the $1 billion Olive Downs project as a vote of confidence in the future of Queensland coal mining.

“There is a lot of discussion about the future of coal – and of course demand and prices will always fluctuate – but investments like this show it has a strong long-term future," acting Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said.

“The Isaac Region already has half the coal mines in Queensland and produces at least half of the approximately $4 billion a year in coal royalties that go to the Queensland Government.”

Pipeline a potent prompt to jobs potential

The State Government is backing a pre-feasibilty study for a new 500km pipeline to connect gas reserves in the Bowen Basin to the east coast domestic market and overseas customers.

Infrastructure blueprint out for public comment

Isaac Regional Council is seeking input on a draft infrastructure blueprint to underpin the region’s future development.

Mayor Anne Baker said the purpose of the Isaac Local Government Infrastructure Plan was to identify critical trunk infrastructure across the transport, water supply, parks and sewerage networks. 

“Its aim is to improve the way infrastructure planning is coordinated and delivered in a timely manner across the region to our communities,” Mayor Baker said.
