Copper Mountain brings it home to Cloncurry

Copper Mountain is setting up shop in Cloncurry. The Canadian miner has the Eva deposit north of the town near MMG’s Dugald River operation. The promise of another mid-tier miner in Cloncurry is being played out in the community around 800kms west of Townsville said Mayor Greg Campbell. More than 20 mine management and 300 staff were expected to be employed at the mine when operational and Cr Campbell said the company is committed to having a large residential presence in Cloncurry. Preparing for construction The stars, in terms of demand and higher commodity prices, were aligning for Copper Mountain said Cr Campbell. “And the discussions that we're having with them at a high level about our council housing project and their interest in getting a number of houses secured for staff, and for senior staff as well, is really encouraging …” “We're seeing an increase in the project team and the mine manager and those sort of staff and a number of them being based in Cloncurry, and they've got a project management office set up for the pre-construction and construction phases of the project,” he said. Copper Mountain to proceed with Eva mine The mine’s leadership team was setting an example by basing themselves in Cloncurry which needed young families, Cr Campbell said. Copper Mountain's Eva Lease “And that commitment by the leadership team, they will live here, that can only be positive. “You would really struggle, I think, to sell the message to your employees exactly, if you were living in Brisbane. “If you're living locally, I think that breeds a lot more loyalty and a lot greater commitment. “And it's only a bonus to our community as well, because we're getting people that want to be here and want to be involved. “And, actually Cloncurry or any mining town where people choose to reside can actually be a really positive part of their life.” Project description Copper Mountain described its proposed Eva Project as a ‘low risk, high return, organic growth project with a long life based on reserves with further upside located in a mining friendly, tier-one mining jurisdiction.’ The Canadian company has feasibility study results putting annual copper production at 100Mlbs and gold at 1.4moz. The Capex was revised to A$836m in December 2021. The investor presentation detailed the prospectivity of the Isa Carpentaria Minerals Province where its 2,100 square kilometre mining lease sits. Last year’s drilling program focused on Cameron Copper and high-grade copper-gold targets and included 6000 metres of RC drilling and 1,200 metres of diamond drilling.
