Carnaby forges ahead with Greater Duchess work

Carnaby Resources is on track to deliver the Greater Duchess scoping study within the next month against a backdrop of strongly rising copper and gold prices, according to managing director Rob Watkins. After a late start to the 2024 drilling and field season due to wet weather, Mr Watkins said Carnaby was making up for lost time with two rigs starting this week at the Wimberu and Mount Hope projects. It came as the company announced the latest high-grade assays from previous work at Greater Duchess prospect Lady Fanny and hosted a site visit from Queensland Department of Resources director general Warwick Agnew. "The Greater Duchess copper and gold project is going to deliver a significant new development opportunity at a time when battery and critical mineral development is required for the energy transition," Mr Watkins said. "This is emphasised by the Queensland government support for development in the North West Mineral Province and this week’s site visit by the director general of the Department of Resources.” The scoping study includes extensive joint metallurgy studies with Glencore to gauge whether ore from Greater Duchess is amenable for treatment at the Mount Isa copper mill and concentrator. Carnaby reported that these studies were progressing well and will form a core input into the pre-feasibility studies expected to follow on immediately after the release of the Greater Duchess project scoping study in May. Related: Carnaby secures key Mount Hope ground in $20m deal The latest drilling at Lady Fanny targeted extensions of recent high grade results from the northern plunge. Results included 7m at 1.5 per cent copper and 0.3g/t gold from 376m downhole, and 6m at 2.7 per cent copper and 0.4g/t gold from 138m (including 1m at 11.6 per cent copper and 1.4g/t gold from 141m). A further three RC holes were recently completed at Lady Fanny North from a new drill platform with results pending. Downhole EM will be completed on one of these holes. The first diamond hole at Wimberu has commenced. Meanwhile, A universal diamond and RC drill rig will recommence drilling at Mount Hope this weekend to increase and upgrade the maiden mineral resource of 10.3Mt at 1.7 per cent CuEq by targeting extensions and infill drilling. The company believes the Mount Hope mineral resource has high potential to grow, with significant drill results received in late 2023 of up to 87m at 2.3 per cent copper and 0.5g/t gold being open and outside of the current mineral resource footprint. Carnaby has also kicked off its maiden diamond drilling program commenced at the Wimberu prospect. This is part of its Devoncourt project joint venture with Rio Tinto. It plans to complete a total of seven angled diamond hole tails using RC pre-collars that drilled through the cover overburden in late 2023. Two of the RC pre-collars drilled in late 2023 intersected anomalous copper mineralisation of up to 5m at 0.14 per cent copper and 0.02g/t gold from 301m to bottom of hole.
