Ayr Reservoir construction starts, cyclone reconstruction works tender, and a Queensland win in the National Earth Awards are among this week’s construction, civil and infrastructure updates. Queensland waterworks among National Earth Awards winners Diona has been named among the winners of the Civil Contractors Federation's National Earth Awards for a Brisbane CBD water mains renewal project (image above). This highly complex package included replacing over 1km of up to 100-year-old mains within four highly congested inner-city streets. "The experience, heart and soul that went into planning, design and engagement saved the client $1.3 million and resulted in zero unavoidable complaints after working for 106 nights with 30 water isolations and 3,000 impacted customers," the judges said. The work won the category for projects valued at $2-5 million and was the only Queensland project among the winners. (See the full list of winners HERE) Contracts awarded for Ayr water supply upgrade Work has started on Burdekin Shire Council’s new 10-megalitre Ayr Reservoir, being built under a $10 million Special Purpose Grant to upgrade local water supply upgrade. Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the council recently awarded nine contracts totalling almost $6.5 million for key components of the Ayr water supply upgrade. This included supply and construction of the Ayr 10ML reservoir, pipework, buildings, and principal contractor for the works. "I want to congratulate TEi Services Pty Ltd for being appointed principal contractor for this project, after working on similar projects in the region and bringing with them a wealth of experience," she said. "TEi Services Pty Ltd also received the contract for associated earthworks and fabrication and erection of the reservoir; QPAMS Pty Ltd received the contract for the reservoir’s protective coating; Roebuck Civil Pty Ltd received the contract for pipework and pits, buildings and pumps; Trility received the contract for chlorine dosing systems; and Burdekin Air Conditioning received the contract for electrical components.' Tenders for post-cyclone reconstruction works Hinchinbrook Shire Council has called tenders for reconstruction works under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) program for Mount Fox Rd and Abergowrie Rd landslips. Suitably qualified contractors are invited to tender on the reconstruction works required due to the impacts from Tropical Cyclone Imogen and Tropical Cyclone Niran and associated weather events early this year. More details HERE JMAC appointed for Corcoran Park revamp JMAC Constructions has been appointed to undertake a $1.05 million upgrade of the Corcoran Park netball courts in Townsville. Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the project would bring the courts, which sustained significant damage in the unprecedented monsoon in February 2019, back to life. “This project will see the existing asphalt courts and lighting removed and replaced with four new concrete courts and lighting which meet the standards set by Netball Australia," she said. “Two of the courts will including markings which will also allow for Pickle Ball, junior netball and Fast 5 netball, which is another great enhancement. New turf will be installed around the courts and new seating will be installed for spectators and supporters.” Disaster assistance for flood-affected areas Disaster assistance is now available to five flood-impacted local councils following heavy rainfall and flooding across Western and Southern Queensland from November 10 to 13. Assistance to repair roads and other essential public infrastructure is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) in the local government areas of Barcoo, Blackall-Tambo, Boulia, Diamantina and Southern Downs. Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience Bridget McKenzie said the disaster assistance would provide these communities with the financial support they needed as they mopped up after the widespread deluge. Fleetwood wins contract for quarantine centre units Fleetwood has secured a $36 million contract to help build the new Brisbane quarantine facility, known as the Centre for National Resilience Brisbane.The Australian Government established a panel of modular providers and principal contractor Multiplex has selected Fleetwood as one of several suppliers of modular buildings that will make up the purpose-built quarantine facility.Under the subcontract arrangement, Fleetwood will utilise its manufacturing facilities in Queensland, New South Wales and Melbourne to build modular accommodation units as part of the Australian Government’s plan to deliver the facilities by March 2022.
