Ballymore builds Ruddygore target pipeline

Ballymore Resources has added a string of prospective drilling targets to its Ruddygore pipeline after expanding a gravity survey across the historic Chillagoe mining district.

The Queensland explorer said preliminary results had identified anomalies at six areas, broadening the exploration focus beyond its emerging Torpy’s silver-lead-zinc discovery.

Final processing and three-dimensional modelling are expected to help Ballymore rank the targets before future drilling.

Common-user infrastructure is firming up as a preferred option for junior miners wanting to bring their projects into operation in North-West Queensland.

Maronan Metals has a silver-lead-copper project 65km from Cloncurry.

The company has a $50 million market capitalisation, which falls short of where it needs to be to develop the mine.

Flinders Highway expected to be cut

Authorities are preparing for floodwaters to cut the Flinders Highway between Julia Creek and Cloncurry.

The remnants of tropical cyclone Kirrily have been sitting south of the towns and flooding has cut off regional mines including Cannington and Eloise, which have around 1200 staff between them. Operations have been scaled back. Aerodromes on the sites are functional.

The system was sitting over the south-east of Cloncurry Shire and the southern section of neighbouring McKinlay Shire, Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell said.

New Century continues Silver King push as results shine

New Century Resources is extending its drilling program at Silver King after high-grade results including 'exceptional' silver assays of up to 1005g/t.

The company is weighing up the near-term development of Silver King and the East Fault Block into mining operations within its Century project in North-West Queensland, and is targeting a final investment decision in early FY22.

Assays from the latest 12 holes of the 30-hole resource definition program at Silver King delivered the strongest results to date, the company said.

New Century Resources has announced 'stunning' high-grade assays from the first seven holes of a 30-hole drilling program at the Silver King deposit within its Century mining lease.

They include an intersection of 9.5m grading at 45.5 per cent lead, 4.1 per cent zinc and 425g/t silver from 174.4m.

Ripple Resources acquisition deal executed

Public unlisted company Auburn Resources has entered an agreement to acquire Armour Energy subsidiary Ripple Resources.

Ripple holds a number of mineral exploration tenements in Queensland and the Northern Territory considered to be prospective for zinc, lead, and gold - including Nicholson in North West Queensland.

The deal would see Armour transfer its interests in Ripple to Auburn for the allotment of 5,600,000 fully paid ordinary Auburn shares.

This would leave Armour holding about 12.5 per cent of Auburn, with completion of the transaction expected to occur in April 2021. . .

A new report on McArthur River Mine says sacred Indigenous sites and an important river system face irreversible damage if operations continue unabated.

It highlights issues including acid build-up in waste rock that was misclassified as harmless and seepage from a tailings dam into groundwater and nearby creeks.

Gulf zinc operation hits production milestone

New Century Resources is celebrating a major milestone, producing its 500,000th tonne of zinc concentrate since restarting operations at the Century mine site in August 2018.

The company also announced that it had executed a zinc price hedging program for the remainder of this financial year, securing contracts to guarantee a floor price of $US1.20/lb ($US2,645/t) for all sales in the March quarter and 50 per cent of sales in the June quarter.

Centurion in $25m logistics deal with zinc mine

Logistics provider Centurion has won a multi-year contract worth about $25 million to provide logistics support for the Century mine in the lower Gulf region and its Karumba port facilities.

The services to be provided will include customs clearance, wharf collections of import commodities, warehousing, road transport, airfreight, and courier services.

Centurion said a dedicated road train fleet would be engaged with a mix of trailing equipment to cater for the safe and efficient transportation of bulk reagents, general freight and grinding media, all of which is required for the daily operations of the mine and port facility.

NT zinc mine wins approval for management plan

The Northern Territory Government has approved McArthur River mine's amended Mining Management Plan 2020, clearing the way for continued operations and ongoing employment of about 1000 people.

It says the Glencore-owned mine, which has been operating since 1995, is one of the world’s largest zinc resources and will play a key role in supporting Territory jobs for decades to come.

Red River Resources has hit a sweet spot at its Far West underground mine in North Queensland, reporting exceptionally high-grade polymetallic ore.

Consistent production from Far West is driving metal production at Red River's Thalanga operations, with the site achieving record quarterly copper concentrate production last quarter of 4,073 dry metric tonnes.

The company said today exceptionally high-grade polymetallic ore had been intersected and mined recently on 620 Level of the underground mine.

Cut 26 in the 620 Level Western Ore Drive intersected massive and semi massive sulphide ore, with a face grade of 4.7m. . .

Drilling highlights Dugald River growth potential

Early results from a near-mine drilling program at MMG Dugald River suggest a wider zinc ore body than originally expected, at relatively shallow depth, the company says.

MMG said further detail would be provided as results came to hand, with the potential for it to support mine life extension or the expansion of the operation.

Dugald River is targeting zinc production approaching 200,000 tonnes per annum by 2022.

MMG said the company was optimistic that this target was achievable andsustainable into the future.

Cannington production on an upward trajectory

South32 has lifted its production forecasts for Cannington this financial year as underground mining hits higher grades and the mill continues to perform well.

The guidance has lifted 10 per cent for payable zinc equivalent production in 2020/21, taking the expected output to 11.8Moz silver, 113.9kt for lead and 60.7kt for zinc.

The North-West Queensland site lifted its payable zinc equivalent production by 9 per cent in 2019/20.

Armour Energy is selling its Ripple Resources portfolio in Northern Australia to unlisted company Auburn Resources.

Ripple currently holds a number of mineral exploration tenements in Queensland and the Northern Territory considered to be prospective for lead and/or zinc.

Good mining volumes lift Dugald River zinc figures

MMG's Dugald River mine lifted zinc production by 22 per cent last quarter compared to the same period last year.

The boost came through improved mining volumes at the North West Queensland mine and a record month for stope ore in May.

This, together with a sustained improvement in recoveries, offset the ongoing impact of lower ore grades, the company said.

Dugald River produced 43,672 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate, and 5,569 tonnes of lead in lead concentrate during the second quarter of 2020.
