Hutchies wins $12.5m Proserpine contract

The construction tender for the $18 million Proserpine Entertainment Centre has been awarded and the first sod is set to to be turned in September.

A Whitsunday Regional Council meeting today awarded J Hutchinson, trading as Hutchinson Builders, the $12.5 million construction contract for the PEC, which is expected to be completed by August next year.

Mayor Andrew Willcox said the project would create more than 40 jobs during the construction phase and the contractor had committed to prioritising local tradies wherever possible.

State bumps up Proserpine Entertainment Centre funds

The State Government is tipping in an extra $8 million for construction of Whitsunday Regional Council’s new Proserpine Entertainment Centre.

This will take the total Queensland Government contribution to $13.725 million in a project expected to cost about $18.725 million to complete.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the revitalised Proserpine Entertainment Centre was a key infrastructure project for the region and would create an estimated 50 jobs during construction.

$1b Whitsunday Paradise project nears starting block

Developer Greater Rewards Group says council approval is the last hurdle to starting its $1.1 billion Whitsunday Paradise project near Bowen, after gaining the green light from State Government.

The Gold Coast-based company plans to develop a residential community of 2000 dwellings for up to 5000 people across 10 stages.

General manager Blake Thomas said it would immediately start $40 million worth of infrastructure upgrades for the Bowen region - creating 84 jobs - upon receiving Whitsunday Regional Council approval.

Vassallo wins $35m contract for Shute Harbour project

Vassallo Constructions has won the $35 million construction tender for the rebuild of Shute Harbour terminal and seawall, with work expected to begin from January 2020.

The restoration project - costing $54.5 million overall - will see a complete rebuild of the seawall, terminal, pontoons and carpark at the Shute Harbour marine facility.

Whitsunday Regional Council Deputy Mayor John Collins said the damaged terminal and jetties were demolished last year in preparation for reconstruction.

Proserpine set for $27m revamp

Four infrastructure projects costing more than $27 million are set to roll out at Proserpine from the second half of 2019.

Whitsunday Regional Council said the town's main street would change dramatically, with a $3.8 million landscaping upgrade book-ended by construction of the $10 million Proserpine Administration Building and $10.9 million Proserpine Entertainment Centre.

Stage 1 of the $3.1 million Lake Proserpine Recreational Master Plan will also commence with tenders for the design and construction of two new jetties going out recently.
