Tender process to line up further Lansdown projects

Townsville City Council has put a call out for further enterprises interested in setting up operations at the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct.

About 900ha of land, or around half of the developable area available, within the precinct is already committed or conditionally committed to advanced battery manufacturing, clean energy, and battery minerals processing industries.

Mayor Jenny Hill said momentum was clearly building behind this precinct and council was now going to market to give companies interested in establishing themselves at Lansdown the opportunity to join.

New tender system for council work

Townsville City Council has rolled out a new tendering system for businesses to secure upcoming work.

VendorPanel will be the platform used by external businesses to submit tenders and quotes for upcoming projects, respond to queries and provide updates to registered suppliers.

Business Services and Finance Committee chairperson Margie Ryder said the change would make the tendering process more user-friendly service and efficient.

CivilPlus to lead $5.3m pipeline project

CivilPlus Constructions has been awarded the contract to design and install the pipeline for a $5.3 million Townsville City Council water project for Rasmussen and Condon.

The new pipeline, which will be about 360m in length and 900mm in diameter, will connect the Douglas Water Treatment Plant to Condon under the Ross River.

Townsville Water and Waste Committee chairperson Russ Cook said the replacement of the water pipeline would improve council’s ability to service the growing suburbs in the area.

Deal to get ball rolling on Lansdown works

Townsville City Council has entered a formal agreement to partner with the State Government to deliver a suite of road and rail projects for the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct.

Mayor Jenny Hill said this move would get the ball rolling on work expected to cost $16 million in total.

“The State Government will contribute the lion’s share of the funding, with a $12 million commitment," she said.

"Council will contribute $2 million and a further $2 million will come from the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.”

Townsville Budget brings $300m capital works plan

Townsville City Council’s 2021/22 Budget includes a $304.1m capital spend on infrastructure across the city, which is forecast to support close to 900 jobs.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the council’s strong financial management meant it was heading into the new financial year on good footing and, importantly, without the need for a rate rise.

The 2021/22 Budget has no increase in general rates and wastewater charges, although there is an increase in water and waste charges said to equate to less than $1 per week for an average owner-occupier.

BMD to lead $1m Townsville water main job

Townsville City Council has engaged BMD Constructions to install a new underground water main adjacent to the Ring Road to serve the growing Bohle Plains community.

Work on the $1 million project is set to begin next week and is forecast for completion by the end of July. It will include the installation of about 1km of pipeline beside the existing water main.

Council rolls out work to improve water delivery

BMD Constructions has won the contract to construct two new water clarifiers at the Douglas Water Treatment Plant in Townsville in a $27.5 million project.

And tenders for the construction of a duplicate pipeline between Ross River Dam and the treatment plant are set to be released later this year in fast-tracked works expected to cost about $45 million.

Council kicks off $5.2m water project

Townsville City Council is replacing more than 4.5km of pipes beneath Charters Towers Rd and Ross River Rd in a $5.2 million water infrastructure project.

GNM Group will carry out the works, with the project expected to support up to 30 local jobs.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the upgrades were crucial for providing water services to residents and businesses.

Edify reveals hydrogen vision for Townsville

Edify Energy is proposing to develop a green hydrogen project at Townsville's Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct.

The company has lodged a development application for the project which, would also involve a solar farm at its site within the Woodstock precinct.

It hopes to build a hydrogen plant with an initial capacity of about 10MW, powered by a small-scale, behind-the-meter solar photovoltaic facility with an initial generation capacity of 10 MWdc.

Ball rolling on Townsville waterfront development

Casino owner Morris Group has revealed plans for a major hotel development on waterfront land beside The Ville in Townsville

The Morris Group, which owns the prime breakwater site, has made the application to Townsville City Council to begin the process for building accommodation, food and beverage, and retail outlets.

Mount Isa council backs CopperString plan

Mount Isa City Council has extended its support of the $1.7 billion CopperString 2.0 power project, endorsing the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) submission.

The council said today it had concluded that the proposed mitigation and management measures pertaining to vegetation clearing, waterway impacts, cultural heritage, noise, waste, and biosecurity meet all necessary requirements.

Push for City Deal cash for Lansdown precinct

The State Government and Townsville City Council are pushing for the Federal Government to back the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct with City Deal money.

Townsville skills fit the bill for TECH jobs

Queensland Pacific Metals chief executive officer Stephen Grocott says former Queensland Nickel workers would have the skills to walk right into a job at the new TECH battery chemicals plant.

City’s ageing assets to see $1b upgrade program

Townsville City Council expects to spend close to $1 billion over the next decade replacing and upgrading road, stormwater, water supply and sewerage infrastructure approaching the end of its operational life.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the massive investment, on top of capital works programs for new infrastructure, would ensure the council could continue to deliver vital services to the ever-growing city as well as enhance the region’s liveability.

Council leading the way with landfill rehabilitation project

An ambitious process used to cap a 50 year old landfill is due for completion this month in Townsville.

Townsville City Council is the first council in Australia to use a bituminous geomembrane to cap a landfill site for its rehabilitation.

The $4 million project is constructing the final cap on the remaining portion of the Hervey Range landfill.

The bituminous geomembrane is less prone to leaks and is more resilient than other products.

Restrictions continue as Townsville reservoirs fill

Townsville City Council continues to call on residents and commercial water users to limit water use to emergency use only.

Council staff and contractors have worked through the night to undertake further works to restore the pipeline to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant.

Pumping at the treatment plant overnight and during today (Sunday 13 December) is expected to replenish the city’s water reservoirs to a level which would allow council to ease water restrictions for domestic customers to in-house use.
