Cutting-edge training builds tradies’ tech know-how

Townsville boilermaker Donnelly Madden is among more than 40 trades professionals polishing their skills for the technological advances of the fourth industrial revolution through a pilot training scheme.

The group is studying for a Diploma of Applied Technologies - the first of its kind in Queensland.

The Queensland Government has invested $300,000 in the Higher Level Apprenticeship Pilot and has partnered with TAFE Queensland, Skills Lab and Ai Group to encourage industry to embrace new digital technologies.

Mr Madden enrolled in the course with the support of his employer, TEi Services, and said the training was showing him a whole. . .

Paluma Dam capacity upgrade underway

A crane is at work at Paluma Dam outside Townsville as TEi Services carries out an upgrade to increase its capacity by the equivalent of about 2600 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Townsville Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Services Committee Chair Mark Molachino said the council was investing $750,000 to maintain and strengthen the dam.

“Local contractor TEi Services is overseeing a great project which will increase the dam’s capacity by around 6,600 megalitres,” Cr Molachino said.

“They are installing 25 large steel flashboards to boost the dam’s capacity from 11,400 megalitres to almost 18,000 megalitres. . .

TEi Services tackles Paluma Dam upgrade

Townsville City Council has launched work on a project to boost the capacity of Paluma Dam by about 6600 megalitres.

Local contractor TEi Services is carrying out the work, which council water and waste committee chairman Russ Cook says will further enhance Townsville’s water security. 

“Paluma Dam is one of two drinking water storage facilities for our city. That’s why Townsville City Council is investing $550,000 to maintain and strengthen the dam so it can continue to serve the community well into the future,” Cr Cook said.
