Olive Downs has already assembled the key elements required to commence construction following the grant of the Bowen Basin project's mining leases, Pembroke Resources says.

This includes securing access to power, water, rail and port, even as finance and offtake partners are finalised.

The mining leases granted today represented the final major approval hurdle to commence the first stage of the project, 40km south-east of Moranbah.

Council hails ‘vote of confidence’ in local mining

Isaac Regional Council has welcomed the approval of the $1 billion Olive Downs project as a vote of confidence in the future of Queensland coal mining.

“There is a lot of discussion about the future of coal – and of course demand and prices will always fluctuate – but investments like this show it has a strong long-term future," acting Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said.

“The Isaac Region already has half the coal mines in Queensland and produces at least half of the approximately $4 billion a year in coal royalties that go to the Queensland Government.”

The State Government has signed off on the final approvals needed for Pembroke Resources to start construction on its $1 billion Olive Downs coking coal project.

Pembroke Resources has received key federal approvals for its $1 billion Olive Downs coking coal project, south-east of Moranbah in Central Queensland.

The final approvals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act pave the way for the granting of mining leases and the start of construction, the company says.

Queensland’s Coordinator-General has approved the proposed $1 billion Olive Downs metallurgical coal mine, 40km south-east of Moranbah.

Olive Downs contracts awarded

Central Queensland's newest coal mine is moving ahead.

CIMIC Group companies Sedgman and CPB Contractors have been awarded a contract by Pembroke Resources at the greenfield Olive Downs Coking Coal Project in Central Queensland.

The contract is for design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the Coal Handling and Preparation Plant and will generate revenue to CIMIC Group of $184 million.

Pembroke Resources has lodged its mining lease application and this week reached an agreement with traditional owners as it drives the $1 billion Olive Downs Coking Coal Project towards production.

Pembroke Resources has bought a 41,500ha parcel of grazing properties in central Queensland, where it is advancing its Olive Downs Coking Coal Project.

Pembroke Resources executives were on the hunt for nothing short of a world-class metallurgical coal asset when they stitched together a $120 million deal for three Bowen Basin projects early this year.
