Thiess has expanded its Cat MineStar Command for Dozing program at Lake Vermont, running a six-strong fleet of driverless Caterpillar D11 dozers at the Dysart district coal mine.

It is the largest deployment of Semi-autonomous Tractor System (SATS) technology worldwide, and has delivered significant productivity improvements, the company says.

Thiess wins $2.5b Lake Vermont extension

Jellinbah Group has awarded mining services provider Thiess a $2.5 billion contract extension at its Lake Vermont coal mine,  30km north-east of Dysart.

The five-year contract continues Thiess’ full-service mining operations including mine planning, coal mining, topsoil and overburden removal, drill and blast, water management and rehabilitation of final landforms.

This includes providing all mobile plant and equipment, being statutory operator for the project, and operating and maintaining the client’s Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP).

Thiess wins Jellinbah Plains mining contract extension

Thiess has been awarded a $189 million contract extension to continue to operate the Jellinbah Plains pit at the Jellinbah East Mine near Blackwater in central Queensland.

The 30-month extension will result in Thiess, a CIMIC Group business, continuing to deliver mining services at the mine until September 2020.

CIMIC Group chief executive officer Adolfo Valderas said the extension reflected the successful relationship between Thiess and the Jellinbah Group, which stretched back to the establishment of Lake Vermont coal mine in 2007.

Thiess managing director Douglas Thompson said the group would continue its focus on producing innovative mining techniques. . .
