The industrial action that helped build a city

Former Mines Minister, Mount Isa MLA and Mayor Tony McGrady said the 1964 industrial dispute that halted operations at Mount Isa Mines galvanised a community that was made up of a group of disparate nationalities at the time.

It's the 60th anniversary of the dispute where mine owners locked the gates for eight months over issues to do with piece rates and bonuses and working conditions, among others.

Kogan Creek power station dispute settles

The Mining and Energy Union has reached in-principal agreement with CS Energy after a long running dispute on the site of the Kogan Creek Power Station near Chinchilla in south-west Queensland. 

The union wanted coverage extended to include renewable assets on site saying its members were confronted with an uncertain future for the coal fired asset.

A Tesla large capacity storage battery is due to be commissioned next month and two gas turbines tapping into a line running from Roma. . .

Union warns of power threat as industrial action looms

The Mining and Energy Union has warned of potential power disruptions as it turns to industrial action over job security issues for Queensland power station workers.

It said today it would apply to the Fair Work Commission to take protected industrial action after Kogan Creek negotiations dragged on with CS Energy, with no direction from the State Government on the impact of the Queensland Energy Workers’ Charter on enterprise bargaining.

Members at the Kogan plant, near Chinchilla, wanted guarantees they would not be replaced by contractors and a fair distribution of attraction and retention provisions in. . .
