Diatreme Resources says a new offtake agreement from its Galalar silica project highlights Asian demand for its premium‐quality silica product as solar energy goes from strength to strength.

The MOU with Jiangxi Kangjia New Material Technology Co covers supply of 250,000 tpa of photovoltaic-grade product from the Cape York project at mine start‐up.

It follows MOU’s signed with Fengsha Group and Wan Zhong Investment Group.

Final metallurgical testwork for Galalar silica project

Diatreme Resources has engaged industry specialist Mineral Technologies (MT) to undertake final metallurgical testwork for the definitive feasibility study for its Galalar silica sand project.

The testing program will use a one-tonne bulk sample taken from an area representing the first five years of planned mining at Galalar.

Two variability samples from other areas within the first 15 years’ mining will also be processed to finalise the process flowsheet.

Townsville earmarked for silica processing plant

Diatreme Resources is eyeing sites in Townsville for a potential downstream processing plant for silica sand from its Galalar project.

The company is targeting first production in 2022 from the Cape York silica project, located near Mitsubishi's major Cape Flattery sand mine.

While Diatreme remains focused on Galalar’s permitting and approval process, it revealed today that it is also evaluating opportunities to add further value to the project’s premium quality silica product.

Diatreme cashed up for ‘transformational’ year

Diatreme Resources has carried out a $4.64 million capital raising to help advance its Galalar silica sand project in Far North Queensland through permitting and approvals.

Chairman Greg Starr said the company was now well funded as it headed into a 'transformational' 12 months.

The company announced it had completed a bookbuild to raise the $4.64 million, including cornerstone shareholder Ilwella subscribing for $1.65 million.

It will also undertake a share purchase plan to raise about $500,000.

Diatreme highlights Galalar growth potential

Diatreme Resources says results from exploration drilling undertaken latelast month have highlighted the Galalar silica project's potential for further expansion.

The drilling program comprised 44 air‐core drill holes for 835m, with some 2000kg of bulk samples collected from the preliminary mine plan footprint.

It also featured exploration drilling outside the current resource, with newholes encountering deeper sections of silica sand than anticipated, indicating the potential for an increased resource in this area, the company reported.

Traditional owners voice support for silica mine

Traditional owner representative body Hope Vale Congress has come out publicly to voice strong support for the emerging Galalar silica sand project in Far North Queensland.

Diatreme Resources has its sights set on a 2022 start to production at the Cape York project, which lies near the world’s largest operating silica sand mine at Cape Flattery.

Hope Vale Congress, on behalf of affected native title holders, will hold a 12.5 per cent stake in the project as part of a partnership with Diatreme.

Cape York silica sand project advances

Diatreme Resources has announced another step forward in the approval process for its Galalar silica sand project on Cape York, as it aims for a 2022 start to production.

The company has released the Initial Advice Statement (IAS) and draft terms of reference (DToR) for the project’s environmental impact statement.

The total mineral resource for Diatreme’s Galalar silica sand project on Cape York has received a 25 per cent boost to 47.5 million tonnes.

Diatreme says it aims to progress to mining as soon as possible against a background of strong demand from Asian markets.

An independent study highlights the potential economic benefits of Cape York's Galalar silica project for the local region, with a jobs boost of about 110 in the construction phase alone.

The Diatreme Resources project is located about 200km north of Cairns and 20km from the port of Cooktown, near the operating silica sand mine at Cape Flattery.

Diatreme Resources is among the mining and exploration companies impacted by restrictions on entry to Cape York and Gulf Indigenous communities as COVID-19 measures increase.

Diatreme Resources has boosted the resource estimate for its Galalar silica sand project by 26 per cent to 38 million tonnes after recent drilling and testing.

It follows December’s lodgement of a Mining Lease Application (MLA) and application to undertake a voluntary EIS as the company seeks to accelerate development of a new silica sand mine.

New offtake deal for Cape York silica project

Diatreme Resources has announced a new MOU for offtake from its Galalar silica project in Far North Queensland.

The agreement with Chinese company Wan Zhong Investment Group is for the potential supply of up to 500,000 tonnes per annum of photovoltaic-grade silica sand.

It follows the signing of an MOU in July with the Fengsha Group, also for the potential supply of up to 500,000 tonnes per annum.

Scoping study paints bright picture for silica project

A scoping study for the Galalar silica project has shown its potential as a significant near‐term, low‐cost and premium‐quality silica producer for fast growing Asian markets, Diatreme Resources says.

The new Cape York mine, 200km north of Cairns, would cost $24.4 million to bring online and has a projected life of 15 years.

Diatreme says it would be developed in partnership with the traditional owners Hopevale Congress, with a 12.5 per cent project interest.

Chinese deal for Cape York silica sand project

Diatreme Resources has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Chinese manufacturer for the potential supply of up to 500,000 tonnes of photovoltaic grade silica sand.

The sand would be produced from its Galalar silica project, which is adjacent to the Cape Flattery silica sand mining operation on Cape York.

The agreement was inked with the privately owned Fengsha Group - China’s largest domestic supplier to major glass manufacturers of photovoltaic (solar) and other specialty high end silica sand products.

Premium potential for NQ silica sand project

Testing has backed Diatreme Resources' Galalar silica project as being able to produce premium-grade product suitable for high-tech applications.

Galalar forms part of Diatreme’s Cape Bedford Silica/Heavy Minerals Project, about 200km north of Cairns.
