Gas producers in Queensland say they are committed to working with the new government to realise the full potential of the state’s gas sector.

They’ve tabled five priority areas for consideration including boosting supply and supporting both stable royalties and low-emissions technologies.

Boulder Creek build ready to roll as CS Energy takes a stake

Construction is set to begin in November on the $740 million Boulder Creek wind farm, 40km south-west of Rockhampton.

All systems ‘go’ for $150m Chinchilla battery

The $150 million Chinchilla battery is now fully operational at CS Energy's Kogan Creek power plant site on the Western Downs.

The installation has a discharge capacity of 100 megawatts and a storage capacity of 200 megawatt hours - enough to power 33,000 homes in the evening peak for two hours before needing to recharge.

CS Energy worked with Tesla and Downer to deliver the Chinchilla battery, which is the first operational project in the Kogan Clean Energy Hub.

Bill paves way for hydrogen industry growth

The Queensland Parliament has passed legislation to help drive hydrogen industry development by setting the framework for the transportation of this and other renewable gases.

The Gas Supply and Other Legislation (Hydrogen Industry Development) Amendment Bill 2023 helps unlock an estimated 10,000 jobs and $33 billion in economic activity by 2040, according to Resources Minister Scott Stewart.

Fortescue deal boosts Bulli Creek energy plans

Fortescue Metals Group has signed up to draw energy from Genex Power's Bulli Creek solar and battery development to help power its Gibson Island project in Brisbane.

The 25-year solar power purchase agreement will secure 337.5 MW of the energy generated from the first stage (proposed at 450MW) of the project.

Blue’s energy play runs out of steam

Mining & Energy Union members will begin protected industrial action at the Kogan Creek power station this Thursday the 21st of September.

The Mining & Energy Union (MEU) says members are 'fighting today for our tomorrow."

The dispute is about the use of contracted work and where workers stand under the future energy plan, the union said.

The Mining and Energy Union has warned of potential power disruptions as it turns to industrial action over job security issues for Queensland power station workers.
