Early results from a near-mine drilling program at MMG Dugald River suggest a wider zinc ore body than originally expected, at relatively shallow depth, the company says.
MMG said further detail would be provided as results came to hand, with the potential for it to support mine life extension or the expansion of the operation.

MMG's Dugald River mine lifted zinc production by 22 per cent last quarter compared to the same period last year.
The boost came through improved mining volumes at the North West Queensland mine and a record month for stope ore in May.
This, together with a sustained improvement in recoveries, offset the ongoing impact of lower ore grades, the company said.
Dugald River produced 43,672 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate, and 5,569 tonnes of lead in lead concentrate during the second quarter of 2020.

The ramp-up of North-West Queensland's Dugald River mine has continued successfully, with a record 47,296 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate produced last quarter, MMG says.
This result was 32 per cent above the previous quarterly production.
Higher production was attributable to higher mining, throughput and recovery rates and higher ore grades.
The MMG-owned Dugald River mine and processing operation, 65km north-west of Cloncurry, came online in late 2017.

The Dugald River team is looking to bump up production further in 2019 after taking the North-West Queensland operation’s processing plant right out to design capacity in the past year.
General
manager Sam Rodda said the MMG site would aim for an ore throughput as high as
2Mtpa and was still ramping up its underground mining operations with contract
partner Barminco.
“It’s exciting
for us. We still don’t totally understand what the ultimate capacity is for
mining this site,” he said.
