Liebherr T 264 fleet does the job at Dawson

Five Liebherr T 264 off-highway haul trucks have joined MacKellar Mining's fleet this year at Dawson mine, near Moura in Central Queensland.

The Liebherr T 264 trucks are among an upgraded generation which includes a payload capacity of 240 tonnes, with power ratings up to 2013 kW/2700 HP.

For increased safety, the new front wheel design and upgraded braking system shorten reaction times, particularly when traveling downhill, Liebherr says.

Upgraded wheel motors and the rear gear ratio boosts torque and acceleration to provide similar cycle times with 10 per cent increased payload.

Training opportunities with Anglo American

Anglo American’s Metallurgical Coal business is continuing to invest in the next generation of miners across its Central Queensland mines, with multiple entry-level opportunities available.

“We’re committed to supporting skills development across the Central Queensland regions where we operate, and are currently looking for six new apprentices to start work in 2021 at our Dawson mine, near Moura,” a spokeswoman said.

Dawson Mine is an open-cut metallurgical coal mine, and the apprentices will undertake structured training in working areas of the mine with a rotation of duties to maximise exposure to various facets of the operation. . .

Cuts at Dawson as COVID-19 crunches coal returns

Dawson mine is facing a workforce cut after falling coal prices sparked an Anglo American move to defer some production activities at the Bowen Basin site.

One shovel fleet, one excavator fleet and associated services will be suspended from this month.

The majority of the workers impacted are engaged through contracting companies.

In a statement today, the company said the changes were the result of deteriorating metallurgical coal prices as the COVID-19 crisis impacted markets in customer countries and economies.

Anglo ditches driverless trucks option for Dawson

Anglo American has backed off a proposal to introduce driverless trucks to its Dawson Mine operations in Central Queensland.

The big miner has been studying the option of introducing Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) for a portion of its truck fleet at the mine.

This co-incided with the timing of a key decision on whether to undertake major overhauls on the site's CAT797 fleet (23 trucks) or replace them.
