REP reveals 5GW ‘big wind’ plan for Hughenden

Renewable Energy Partners has revealed plans to develop a 5GW wind farm south-east of Hughenden dubbed Bogunda.

The Brisbane-based company proposes a staged development, with an initial $5 billion stage of about 2GW to connect to the grid via the CopperString transmission line in 2029.

Power outage adds spark to CopperString push

A major power outage that hit Mount Isa on Friday has been held up as demonstrating why the region needs the CopperString 2.0 project to be built.

An operational issue at APA's Diamantina Power Station complex triggered the outage from just after 9am which affected about 10,000 Ergon Energy customers.

CopperString beats other key projects on cost-benefit scale

Every $1 invested in the CopperString 2.0 power transmission project is forecast to deliver $4.54 in benefits for Australia, economic analysis shows.

Director of project proponent CuString, Joseph O’Brien, said ACIL Allen had recently completed economic modelling estimating the planned transmission line's Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) to be 4.54.

“The significance of this analysis is that CopperString’s BCR of 4.54 highlights the critical importance of the Townsville - North West Mineral Province industrial economy to our jobs and national income because this infrastructure compares very favourably to other Australian infrastructure projects,” Mr O’Brien. . .

CopperString study highlights jobs bonanza

Developing the CopperString 2.0 transmission project would power an additional 3560 jobs in North and North-West Queensland in the next 30 years, a new report shows.

The report, “Re-powering the Townsville & North West Minerals Province Industrial Economy”, also finds that Queensland’s aggregate Gross State Product would increase by $139 billion with the project up and running.

Mica Creek power plant to be mothballed from next year

Mount Isa's Mica Creek Power Station will be placed into 'cold storage' at the end of this year, owner Stanwell Corporation says.

The proponents of the $1.5 billion CopperString 2.0 project have entered into a development partnership with infrastructure fund manager DIF Capital Partners.

High electricity prices are robbing North West Queensland of new investment despite its enormous mineral wealth, the proponent of the $1.5 billion CopperString transmission project warns.
