Cloncurry is hosting Season 6 of the popular show, produced by Endemol Shine Australia for Network 10.

South32’s Cannington operation has partnered with registered charity RedDoor Community Services to help disengaged young people in the Cloncurry region fulfil their potential.

Cannington’s AU$60,000 investment has enabled RedDoor to expand its services by employing a new Youth Development Mentor to deliver registered training programs in construction, hospitality and business for young people who are not currently engaged in formal education or employment.

Como enlisted as Ausmex weighs up processing options

Ausmex has brought Como Engineers onboard to help weigh up its processing options as it pushes ahead with plans to start producing gold by the end of the year.

The company plans to establish a Cloncurry mining hub with multiple pits centred on the Mount Freda and Golden Mile gold projects.

Boeing unveils Loyal Wingman combat drone

A Boeing-led Australian industry team has rolled out its first Loyal Wingman unmanned aircraft for the Royal Australian Air Force. 

The combat drone uses artificial intelligence to extend the capabilities of manned and unmanned platforms.

It is Boeing’s largest investment in an unmanned aircraft outside of the United States.

The working Loyal Wingman prototype now moves into ground testing, followed by taxi and first flight later this year.

Eloise copper operations remain on hold

Operations remain suspended at the Eloise copper mine, about 60km south-east of Cloncurry, the Queensland Mines Inspectorate says.

"To date (6 December 2019) Eloise Copper Mine has not demonstrated to the QMI that the risk to workers is at an acceptable level," a QMI spokeswoman said.

"Subsequently operations remain suspended.

"The safety of Queensland mine workers is paramount and our inspectors will continue to work with the mine to ensure safe operations."

The inspectorate ordered the halt in activity on November 18 due to safety concerns.

Ausmex sights set on 2020 gold start

Ausmex Mining says it is committed to fast-tracking the Mt Freda complex into production in 2020 as high-grade gold results continue to roll in from its drill program.

The company aims to release a maiden JORC resources estimate for the combined Mount Freda complex and Golden Mile projects near Cloncurry by late November.

Cloncurry’s call for more councillors placed on hold

The Electoral Commission of Queensland has deferred Cloncurry Shire Council’s request for more councillors to represent he region.

The council conducted a survey in April/May last year on the question, “Do you support increasing councillor numbers from Mayor and four councillors to Mayor and six councillors”.

It said the results highlighted the community’s support for increasing the amount of elected members with 85 per cent voting 'yes' and 15 per cent 'no'.

Singer highlights flooding heartache with new track

Recording artist Madeleine Chaplain may be based in Melbourne now, but she has drawn on her Cloncurry roots for new release 'The Flood'.

All proceeds of the song will go to Cloncurry-based charity Sisters of the North.

Chaplain grew up on a cattle station north of Cloncurry, where her family was directly affected by the flooding in February that wiped out hundreds of thousands of cattle and sheep in the region.

Cash for North-West Qld infrastructure projects

The State Government has committed more than $2.4 million to three critical infrastructure projects in North-West Queensland.

Projects in McKinlay, Cloncurry and Flinders shire council areas will be funded through Round 4 of the $295 million Building our Regions program.

State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Cameron Dick, said the works would drive economic and job growth for the north-west.

Jericho copper discovery at centre of 21,000m drill campaign

Minotaur has launched a 21,000m drilling campaign at the Jericho copper discovery within the Eloise joint venture project in North-West Queensland.

Two multi-purpose rigs will be utilised, operating 24/7, with drilling planned to a vertical depth of 300m.

Minotaur said 80-90 holes were planned within the central Jericho zone, a portion of a broader mineral system as defined by drilling in 2018.
