Mackay infrastructure focus in COVID-19 recovery

Mackay Regional Council will pump more than $100 million into capital works projects in the coming financial year.

Mayor Greg Williamson said spending on infrastructure and initiatives like the Invest Mackay Events and Conference Attraction program would help stimulate the economy during the COVID-19 recovery.

The 2020-2021 budget includes $7.6 million to progress signature projects – the Mountain Biking Strategy, Northern Beaches Community Hub and the Mackay Waterfront PDA.

This includes $1.8m towards design of a new mountain biking facility at Eungella-Finch Hatton and $2.5 million for Northern Beaches Community Hub master planning and design. . .

Flood repairs dominate Cloncurry works program

Works to recover from flood damage will make up a huge $30 million chunk of Cloncurry Shire Council's capital works spend this financial year.

The council adopted its 2019/20 budget this week, with a direct capital works budget of about $50 million including the flood damage program supported by State and Federal funding.

The budget will deliver a $53,000 surplus, which the council says is the first of many surplus budgets projected over the next five years.
