Union survey highlights Operations Services gripes

A mineworkers' union says a survey has shown only 4 per cent of those employed by BHP’s Operations Services are satisfied that their wages and conditions stack up with Queensland coal industry standards.

It comes as the mining giant tries to lock in their substandard conditions with fresh Enterprise Agreements, CFMEU Mining and Energy says.

Queensland President Stephen Smyth said the survey results should send a clear message to BHP that it was time to negotiate a better deal with their Operations Services (OS) Queensland coal workforce.

Mr Smyth said the union was pushing to get BHP to. . .

Jasper truck’s unusual hue a touchstone for inclusion

A new Komatsu 930E-5 haul truck at BMA’s Goonyella Riverside Mine stands out from the rest - with its tray painted turquoise in celebration of BHP’s LGBT+ ally community, Jasper.

The group’s name was inspired by the gemstone jasper – an opaque and fine-grained variety of quartz known for its unique multi-coloured patterns - reflecting the rich diversity of the LGBT+ community.

BHP said the LGBT+ ally network focused on strengthening the company's inclusion culture by providing advice on ways to mitigate bias and ensuring that LGBT+ people were respected, valued and free from discrimination.
