Centrex Metals will start advertising its Direct Application Phosphate Rock (DAPR) product from the Ardmore project for sale after a successful shipment for Australian farmers.

Centrex chief executive officer Robert Mencel said the first parcel of high-grade phosphate rock made available to farmers was not only a milestone development for Ardmore, but heralded a critical improvement in the nation’sfertiliser supply chain resilience and long-term food security.

“For farmers, the application of crushed phosphate rock to crops and pastures represents a very affordable long-term opportunity to increase their soil’s nutrient bank,” Mr Mencel said.

A new study on the proposed Ardmore phosphate operation confirms its profitability, with a forecast gross revenue of almost $1.5 billion and net cash flow of $429 million, Centrex Metals says.

The company has released an updated definitive feasibility study on the North West Queensland project, expected to cost $78.47 million to bring into production and have a pay-back period of less than two years.

In an announcement to ASX, Centrex said the updated DFS provided it with confidence to commence project financing discussions and progress product sales.

Short mining campaign underway at Ardmore

Centrex Metals says mining has commenced at the Ardmore phosphate project in North West Queensland to produce 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes of ore.

The campaign is expected to run for about two weeks, with JDR Mining & Civil from Mount Isa as mining contractor.

Centrex said it had already received interest from parties looking to purchase some of this product.

And it was anticipated that demand would increase as the phosphate became available.

Mining is expected to start at the Ardmore phosphate project south of Mount Isa next week to produce 25,000 tonnes of ore.

Centrex Metals executive chairman Graham Chrisp said a team was on site this week to carry out surveying and necessary preparatory work.

Centrex Metals remains ‘quietly optimistic’ about financing its Ardmore phosphate project, with hopes its timing will dovetail with improved prices, according to executive chairman Graham Chrisp.

In the meantime, the company is looking for contractors for a three to four-week mining campaign in the first quarter the next year.

It plans to mine 25,000 tonnes to provide material for prospective customers and for Centrex to investigate a new process that may act as an adjunct to the business.

Centrex Metals says it is scheduling production of concentrates from the trial mine project at Ardmore, south of Mount Isa, in mid to late 2021.

The timeline announced in a company update this week places production from the full Ardmore phosphate project in 2022, following an expected lift in phosphate prices 2021.

Centrex last year completed on-site assembly of a 70-tonne-per-hour start-up plant, designed to expand to a 140tph throughput to produce 800,000 wet tonnes of phosphate rock per annum from the site.

Centrex looks to secure extra water for phosphate mine

Centrex Metals has submitted an application to allow the use of Split Creek Dam to capture and store water for its Ardmore phosphate rock project, 128km south of Mount Isa.

The Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) on Ardmore identified that additional water may be required in the second half of the mine’s life, the company said.

Split Creek Dam offered a solution that would ensure there was sufficient water to sustain operations for the intended period.

Water for initial mining and processing will be drawn from a known aquifer on the granted mining lease.

Centrex Metals has secured its second sales contract for high-quality phosphate rock concentrate from the Ardmore project, south of Mount Isa.

New Zealand-based Ballance Agri-Nutrients has previously trialled 400 wet tonnes of ore from Ardmore to produce single superphosphate.

It will buy a further 5000 wet tonnes of concentrate when Centrex Metals kicks off trial production through a 70tph modular processing plant.

The $4 million plant, fabricated by CDE Global, is expected to arrive on site in June.

A start-up processing plant is on its way to Australia for Centrex Metals' Ardmore rock phosphate project, south of Mount Isa.

CDE Global has completed the fabrication and trial assembly of the 70-tonne-per hour modular plant, which is expected to arrive on site in June from the United Kingdom.

Concentrate produced from the start-up phase will go to potential offtake customers.

Centrex Metals has received State environmental approvals for its Ardmore phosphate project in North-West Queensland.

The company said the issued environmental authority for its mining lease would allow the company to progress start-up operations.

It plans to produce about 30,000 wet tonnes of phosphate rock concentrate to provide batches to potential future customers in the second half of 2019.

The approval includes the installation and operation of  a wet processing plant with a capacity of 70 tonnes per hour, which is being fabricated for Centrex by CDE Global.
