Fortescue deal boosts Bulli Creek energy plans

Fortescue Metals Group has signed up to draw energy from Genex Power's Bulli Creek solar and battery development to help power its Gibson Island project in Brisbane.

The 25-year solar power purchase agreement will secure 337.5 MW of the energy generated from the first stage (proposed at 450MW) of the project.

Genex is developing the Bulli Creek renewable energy project about 100km south-west of Toowoomba in partnership with J-POWER.

Eco-friendly route to ammonia production

Australian chemical engineers have found a way to make ‘green’ ammonia from air, water and renewable electricity - while avoiding the need for high temperatures, high pressure and major infrastructure.

They believe the new production method has the potential to play a role in the global transition towards a hydrogen economy, where ammonia is increasingly seen as a solution to the problem of storing and transporting hydrogen energy.

Ammonia operations look into ‘green’ hydrogen option

ARENA is stumping up almost $3 million for two Central Queensland sites to assess the feasibility of building ammonia plants fed by renewable hydrogen.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) will provide $980,000 for Dyno Nobel and $1.9 million for Queensland Nitrates.

The companies will assess the feasibility of building a renewable ammonia facility at their existing ammonia plants at Moranbah and Moura.

A consortium led by QNP and partners Neoen and Worley proposes to produce 20,000 tonnes per year of ammonia from 3600 tonnes of renewable hydrogen at Moura.
