Multimillion-dollar upgrade for Rockhampton airport

Stepped-up security requirements have sparked a planned overhaul at the Rockhampton airport, including more screening equipment and a dedicated FIFO area.

Rockhampton Regional Council revealed the plans today for a staged upgrade, with $7.79 million for the initial stages.

It says the Master Plan has been triggered by the Federal Government’s directive to strengthen security measures with the installation of new x-ray body and baggage scanners across regional airports by December 31.

Townsville push for direct Singapore flights

Townsville Airport and Townsville City Council are joining forces to lobby for a direct connection to Singapore’s Changi Airport – which recorded over 65 million passenger movements last year.

They say the direct flights to Singapore could begin as soon as 2020.

“Townsville has several economic ties to Singapore including the JCU campus and the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative,” Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said.

open Townsville up to further trade with Asia and benefit our education,
tourism and hospitality industries.
