Agripower takes next step in $663m fertiliser project

A raft of
contracts is set to be awarded by mid-April for Agripower Australia Limited’s $663
million Fertiliser Expansion Project.

Agripower director Peter Prentice said many
consultants would be coming on board for tasks including environmental work, design,
drilling for geotechnical studies, plant site selection, and calculating
project requirements in areas including rail construction.

“At the end of the month we will start finalising negotiations with all the subcontractors, awarding contracts and they'll start their work,” he said.

Many would
come from the Townsville area, although some special expertise was being drawn
from elsewhere, he said.

Agripower Australia's new $52 million fertiliser plant at Charters Towers is up and running as orders roll in from domestic and international customers.

Agripower director Peter Prentice said the company was seeing a strong growth in interest in the company's product, which is based on amorphous silica mined at Greenvale.

Two shipments of 300 and 200 tonnes are due to leave Townsville for Indonesia within the next week, while two further shipments of about 2000 tonnes each are due to leave for India in late August/early September.

A fertiliser producer’s plans to re-open the Greenvale-Yabulu rail line are ambitious, but could provide great opportunities for the local community, says Charters Towers mayor Liz Schmidt.

She was commenting after Agripower Australia’s $663 million Fertiliser
Expansion Project was granted prescribed project status by the State Government
this week.

The cost takes in a proposed mine-to-rail-head conveyor, 220km rail line, a 1Mtpa processing plant at or near Yabulu, and facilities at Port of Townsville, according to the proponent.

New NQ fertiliser plant gears up for mid-year exports

Agripower expects the first fertiliser exports in June from its $52 million fertiliser manufacturing plant at Charters Towers.

Agripower managing director Peter Prentice said key electrical works
would begin next week at the plant, which was near mechanical completion.

The six-week task to interconnect the components electrically will be
managed by SMEC’s Townsville branch and undertaken by ICS Electrical
Contractors.

“By the end of March we plan to start commissioning, running material
through the plant,” he said.

Agripower hopes to see the first 15,000-tonne shipment of fertiliser

Agripower’s new $52 million fertiliser manufacturing plant is taking shape at Charters Towers, with commissioning planned in the first quarter of 2019.

The company plans to go out to tender soon for a contractor to carry out campaign mining at its Greenvale site to provide the amorphous silica ore for processing at the facility.

Agripower managing director Peter Prentice said the new 250,00tpa-capacity plant was nearing mechanical completion and that electrical completion was expected in January/February.

Fertiliser firm pours $35m into Charters Towers site

Agripower plans a $35 million plant upgrade this year to shift its Charters Towers fertiliser operation into commercial production.

Managing director Peter Prentice said the company hoped to begin construction within two months, with tenders for tasks such as concreting, formwork and steelwork expected to start rolling out from mid-March.

The initial project will install a processing line to take plant capacity to almost 200,000 tonnes per annum.
