National Jet Express has announced new weekly charter services between Brisbane and Gladstone, continuing to Rockhampton. Gladstone Airport is NJE’s seventh charter destination in Queensland and its addition comes just eight months after NJE launched its base in Queensland in July 2023. These new charter services to Gladstone use NJE’s De Havilland Dash 8-400NG (‘Next Generation’) aircraft, which it describes as the perfect fit to support the mining, resources and construction industries. Monadelphous Group has secured new construction and maintenance contracts and extensions in the resources and energy sectors totalling more than $140 million. The engineering company has been awarded a two-year extension to its existing contract providing midstream maintenance and turnaround services at Shell QGC’s Curtis Island operations in Gladstone. Also in Gladstone, Monadelphous has been awarded a two-year extension to its existing contract providing mechanical maintenance services at Queensland Alumina Limited’s operations. The company has also been appointed to a panel providing fixed plant projects across Fortescue’s Pilbara operations in Western Australia until August 30, 2025. Engineers Australia and Consult Australia have signed a formal collaboration agreement with the goal of tackling shared challenges and seeking growth opportunities. “Australian engineering has long been at the forefront of our nation's development, offering solutions to complex challenges and shaping our built and natural environments," Consult Australia president Tasos Katopodis said. "As we confront the uncertainties of the future, our collaborative leadership is more crucial than ever. Engineers Australia, representing the engineering profession, and Consult Australia, representing businesses in design and engineering, stand together to lead towards a more prosperous and sustainable future.” Consult Australia president Tasos Katopodis and Consult Australia chief executive Jonathan Cartledge mark the agreement with Engineers Australia chief executive officer Romilly Madew and Engineers Australia president Raj Aseervatham. Aurecon has committed $200,000 in funding and in-kind support as a Principal Partner of the AUD 16.5 million ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub to Advance Timber for Australia’s Future Built Environment, administered by the University of Queensland. Aurecon’s major project director Ralph Belperio, who is on the Hub’s executive board, said the company had identified that timber had a key role to play in decreasing embodied and operational carbon. Several of the research nodes that the hub was tackling were directly relevant to the decarbonisation pursuits of many of Aurecon's key clients, he said. “Our significant investment is key to our desire to remain at the forefront of innovation, both in the efficient and effective use of timber in our efforts to decarbonise the built environment, and in our broader drive for more sustainable outcomes”. Defence Industry Hub – North Queensland has released details of a tender for refurbishment works to be delivered at the RAAF Base Townsville. The RAAF Townsville 25m Range Refurbishment scope includes but is not limited to the following: refurbishment of the range waiting shelter, range ammunitions shelter and range amenities block, Levelling of the range floor and installation of soft – fall matting and associated works; and replacement of the existing firing shelter with a new cantilever shelter. New Hope Group has ramped-up its support of the local community by donating $230,000 to 23 different schools, community groups and sporting teams over the past fourth months, including a sizeable donation to Quinalow Prep-10 State School. New Acland Mine’s $20,000 will allow the school to expand its award-winning agriculture-science program. It will be used to purchase additional infrastructure and equipment for Quinalow Prep-10 State School’s agricultural-science program, including an adjustable cattle ramp and horticulture and aquaponics materials and instruments, benefitting the school’s 68 students.
