Stanwell Corporation has entered into a partnership with Energy Storage Industries Asia Pacific to secure the first large-scale deployment of locally made iron-flow batteries in Australia. The companies are already advancing a 1 MW/10 MWh iron-flow battery pilot project adjacent to the Stanwell Power Station near Rockhampton. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Stanwell and ESI were now working on a 150 megawatt battery project with the ongoing rights to purchase up to 200 megawatts per annum. Meanwhile fellow government-owned generator CS Energy is taking a 50 percent stake in Macquarie’s Green Investment Group's Boulder Creek wind farm in Central Queensland. Ms Palaszczuk announced the move in her State of the State address this week, saying the project would deliver another 228 megawatts of renewable power. The Department of Resources has filed an application in the Land Court to start forfeiture action against the lessee of Double Island, Fortune Island Holding Company. Resources Minister Scott Stewart said the government was committed to the responsible development of Queensland's island resorts for the jobs and business opportunities they created. “However, lessees on government property are required to meet the conditions on their leases," he said. “As this matter is now before the court, it would not be appropriate for me to make any further comments at this stage.” It comes after the Queensland government gave the owners of the rundown resort an ultimatum in April to bring the facilities up to scratch and open the island - north of Cairns - to the public. Idemitsu Australia, through its subsidiary Idemitsu Renewable Developments Australia, is progressing a feasibility assessment for a small-scale vanadium redox flow battery at its Boggabri site as well as a study for a larger-scale flow battery at another site on the east coast. The company said these studies looked to take advantage of the significant vanadium resource available in Australia to provide the medium- and long-term energy storage needed to support the electricity grid. Idemitsu has backed Vecco Group’s Debella critical minerals project near Julia Creek and its Townsville vanadium battery electrolyte manufacturing plant with more than $13 million and is a major shareholder in Lindfield vanadium project proponent Critical Minerals Group. Clean-technology company Graphene Manufacturing Group has celebrated the official opening of its THERMAL-XR Coating Blending Plant in Brisbane. The coating system is a method of improving the conductivity of corroded heat exchange surfaces and improving and maintaining the performance of new units at peak levels. Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Milton Dick, the Member for Oxley, officially opened the plant.
