News updates on Capricorn Copper, Rio Tinto, Hammer Metals, Gladstone Engineering Alliance, Armour Energy and more … A neighbour's recent survey has revealed strong open Induced Polarisation (IP) chargeability anomalies within Hammer Metals' EPM26777 tenement at Mount Hope in North West Queensland. The company said an IP survey by Carnaby Resources had extended across Hammer’s exploration tenement to enable Carnaby to complete its survey to a sufficient depth profile. Several anomalies were observed on the edge of the survey within Hammer’s tenement. Hammer’s tenure on the Mount Hope trend extends over an area about 5.5km long by 1.7km wide and encompasses the former workings at Mount Hope South and South Hope. Rio Tinto has reached agreement with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on tax matters in dispute. As part of this agreement, Rio Tinto will pay to the ATO additional tax of $613 million for 2010 to 2021. This is in addition to $378 million of tax paid in respect of the original amended assessments issued by the ATO. Over this period, Rio Tinto paid nearly $80 billion in tax and royalties in Australia. “We are glad to have resolved these longstanding disputes and to have gained certainty over future tax outcomes relating to our Singapore marketing arrangements," Rio Tinto chief financial officer Peter Cunningham said. Capricorn Copper expects to commission its new Esperanza South ventilation early this quarter. The 5m diameter shaft was successfully concrete-lined in areas of weathered rock near surface during the June quarter and fans have been installed. Detailed design for the next tailings storage facility lift is underway, with the regulatory approvals process planned to commence early in the September quarter, mine owner 29Metals said. A life-of-mine tailings storage options study continued in the June quarter, with further refinement of identified options to occur by year end. Following a competitive joint tender process, Mount Isa City Council and Cloncurry Shire Council have awarded JJ Richards contracts to deliver kerbside waste-collection services. Mount Isa Mayor Danielle Slade said there would be minimal impact for residents during the transition from council-run services expected to take place in late 2022. “Mount Isa City Council is one of few Councils across Australia that provides a waste-collection service using its own equipment and labour. This change will bring us in line with most other Councils, where services are provided by private companies,” Cr Slade said. Christian Lange has been appointed as chief executive officer of Armour Energy, commencing the role on July 25. Mr Lange has spent more than 30 years in executive and operational roles globally, including with global oil and gasfield services provider Schlumberger. Commenting on the appointment, Armour chairman Nicholas Mather said “Mr Lange is an experiencedCEO with the necessary skills to lead Armour to both maximise profitability from its existing production assets as well as to realise the considerable exploration potential from its diverse asset portfolio."
