Eight rail passing loops have been delivered between Rockhampton and Townsville and three bridges replaced between Bundaberg and Gladstone under two major Queensland Rail projects.

The overtaking sites established under the North Coast Line Capacity Improvement Project enable freight trains as long as 950m to operate on the line, compared to a previous capacity of 650m.

Meanwhile major works on the Berajondo Timber Bridge Replacement Project saw upgrades to three bridges. 

Both projects were completed by Queensland Rail employees and contractors including Martinus Rail and Civil Mining & Construction for the North Coast Line Capacity Improvement Project and Arcadis and DTi for the Berajondo Timber Bridge Replacement Project.

Alliance Airlines has renewed its FIFO contract with Glencore Coal Assets Australia (Glencore), with a three-year contract with options to extend.

Alliance has been providing services to Glencore for nine years operating via the Sunshine Coast Airport to Emerald in Central Queensland.

“This contract retention reaffirms our position as a trusted provider in the aviation industry and underscores the confidence placed in Alliance by our valued clients,” Alliance managing director Scott McMillan said.

Seven Queensland airstrips are among 21 across remote Australia to share $13.4 million in federal funding for work to improve their safety and accessibility.

Delivered under Round 10 of the Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program (RAUP), airstrips across remote areas of the Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales will receive grants of between $5,000 and $3 million to complete upgrades by 2026.
