A Geological Survey of Queensland portal launched this week breaks new ground for explorers looking to work with data more efficiently, says Queensland Exploration Council chair Kim Wainwright.

The QEC, an arm of the Queensland Resources Council, has commended the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy for the launch of the GSQ Open Data Portal.

“My congratulations must go to GSQ who have worked tirelessly for more than a year on this project which brings together not just existing data that is rich in Queensland history of more than 100 years, but also new data and big data for explorers to access, potentially making the next big discovery,” Ms Wainwright said.

“This is great news for Queensland mineral explorers in particular, as the portal unlocks a whole new world of data which has been either unknown or hard to access, for regions like the North West Minerals Province.”

QRC chief executive Ian Macfarlane said Queensland’s geoscience data was worth $40 billion and this portal would house it all in one place.

“Geoscientific data plays a critical role in framing policy settings from government and this portal provides an in-depth understanding of our resource assets which belong to all Queenslanders,” he said.

“Queensland is blessed with a rich source of minerals and the skilled people to find them. Connecting this to supportive governments will ensure the minerals discovered today are the foundations of tomorrow’s resources industry.”

The new portal replaces the QDEX Data system, which will shut down on August 28.

The department also launched its GSQ Lodgement Portal this week, replacing the QDEX Reports system. More details HERE
