Northern lights in state building awards

A clutch of prominent Townsville and Cairns projects are among the winners to emerge from the 2021 Master Builders Queensland Housing & Construction Awards. Hutchinson Builders topped the sporting facilities category for the Cowboys Community Training and High Performance Centre, while Martin Locke Homes was recognised for work on Flinders Lane in Townsville. BESIX Watpac topped the category for Education Facilities over $10 million for The Ideas Lab, James Cook University Cairns (image below) and Vis Constructions was recognised in the commercial building category for Art Work Spaces. Both are in Smithfield, Cairns. In Mackay, Woollam Constructions' work on Ozcare Mackay saw it top the category for Community Accommodation for Aged Care and Nursing Homes. Master Builders chief executive officer Grant Galvin congratulated the winners across all 57 categories. “This year’s field is one of the most diverse we’ve seen. From stunning renovations and beautiful new homes, to important community, education, healthcare and tourism facilities, and soaring residential and business towers inspiring the imagination — there’s nothing Master Builders can’t accomplish,” Mr Galvin said. “The efforts of individuals from apprentices, to women leading the way in the industry, and builders showing the promise of a long and exciting future ahead, is also something we are always delighted to celebrate. “Whether a winner or not, their craftsmanship is a credit to the Master Builders name, and each of them is a part of our family.
