Iplex snags major Haughton pipeline project contract

Iplex Australia has been awarded a $51 million contract to supply 24km of 1.8m diameter pipe for Stage 2 of Townsville’s Haughton pipeline project. Mr Lavelle said winning the stage 2 tender would support 30 direct and indirect jobs in Townsville. Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Steven Miles was today in Townsville for the project announcement, with Member for Townsville Scott Stewart, Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper, Member for Mundingburra Les Walker and Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill. “We’ve committed $195 million to the Haughton pipeline’s second stage, meaning this critical piece of infrastructure can proceed and begin to deliver jobs and water for Townsville and the region," Mr Miles said. “The appointment of Iplex Australia as the successful tenderer for the supply of 24km of 1.8m diameter pipe means Stage 2 is now another step closer to completion, along with the jobs that come with the next state.” Construction of the Haughton pipeline and a pump station is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, with testing and commissioning expected to be finalised by March 2025. The pipeline will bring water from the Burdekin River near Clare to the Ross River Dam to enable the dam level to be managed for the delivery of water to the city. Member for Townsville and Resources Minister Scott Stewart said this meant secure access to water, and would help deliver future economic growth for the city. “Iplex Australia has local operations here in Townsville and the local jobs being supported during construction shows the pipeline is already pumping big dollars into Townsville," he said. “During Stage 1, about 200 local businesses benefited from $100 million in project spending and council reports 1000 workers were inducted to work on-site.
