Major players like Redpath, Byrnecut and RUC Mining have been quick to get on board the new Mining Select jobs platform, according to co-founder Steve Poznik. Mr Poznik, a jumbo operator working in the mining sector and who also founded the Dirty Hole Designs business, described the platform as being like Tinder for mining jobs. The feedback had been amazing, he said, with one company landing an experienced underground auto-electrician within 48 hours on that platform after having a job ad on SEEK for over 12 months. And more than 1500 mining industry job seekers have uploaded their profiles since Mining Select launched late last month. Mr Poznik said the new platform aimed to simplify the recruitment process for mining industry employers and employees. The Mining Select team had wanted to overcome problems such as employees applying for jobs that weren't really suited for them because they had to wait for the interview process to ask certain questions, he said. "We wanted to develop an app where we could put on a profile the things we thought fundamental for taking a job - so rosters, money, locations, and the position wanted," he said. "And we wanted to be able to have a Messenger service on there so we could just quickly text message the recruitment team and ask some serious questions before we wasted their time and our time. "So it's putting power back into the employees, but also making the employment side streamlined." Employers on Mining Select create a company profile visible to the whole employee database. The job posts they create include required skills, roster, salary (can be hidden) and commute options. These advertisements will show up only for job hunters whose skills match those being sought. Workers then have the option to swipe left or right (like a dating app) to show interest in the role. When employers find a match, they can message workers on the platform to discuss their experience and any other necessities. Employees using the app are required first to verify an Australian mobile number to make sure they are based in Australia only. They create a profile listing their skills and job preferences such as what rosters they are interested in and shift rates they would accept. Workers swipe through jobs that match their skills and preferences and have the ability to "like" the jobs that interest them. Candidates stay anonymous until they decide to reply to a message from a company. Once they reply or they reach out to message a company directly, their name will be visible. Initial recruitment screening can start on the Mining Select chat feature or be moved over to direct email/phone conversation as soon as the company sees fit. Once a worker has accepted a role, they can change their availability status on Mining Select to "employed" to ensure they aren't contacted about other roles. Mr Poznik said the platform was only available to mining companies that employed 85 per cent or more of their employees on full-time type contracts, filtering out recruitment or labour hire companies.
