CQU nails health mission with event for tradies

CQUniversity’s Rockhampton Health Clinic is doing its bit for Tradies National Health Month 2021 with a free information evening focused on improving physical health and wellbeing.

The August 31 event will see CQU’s allied health professionals providing their expert advice and tips in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, podiatry, oral health, and pelvic health.

CQUniversity clinical educator Kasey Bonato said she hoped the night would encourage more tradies to seek professional help.

“Tradies will fix most things, but not always themselves,” she said.

“They often associate pain or discomfort as part of their job and try to brush it off, but this a dangerous mindset.”

As a qualified physiotherapist, Ms Bonato has seen the long-term impact that poor physical health can have on people’s work and quality of life.

“There will be a physical therapy presentation on work injuries and when to seek help or assistance. We will also have a focus on how to prevent common health issues that we see in the clinic,” she said.

“Oral health will share the importance of nutritional intake and the effect on teeth. We all know a tradie that has a pie and Dare iced coffee for lunch every day!

“While the podiatry team will discuss the work boots and how to get the right fit.”
