Latest Black Spot road funding list released

The Federal Government has revealed the 51 Queensland road projects set to share more than $25 million under the 2020-21 Black Spot Program. The commitments include $1.45 million for the Moranbah Access Rd (Moranbah airport section) and $1.3 million for work on the Yalangur-Lilyvale Rd in the Toowoomba region. In the Livingstone Shire, Greenlake Rd at Rockyview will receive a $846,000 overhaul. Townsville allocations include $735,000 for installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Angus Ave and Dalrymple Service Rd in Heatley, $808,500 for work on Mount Stuart Rd and $659,500 for Spiegelhauer Rd in Paluma Range National Park.In Cairns, the Federal Government will invest $590,000 in Black Spot funding for work on the intersection of Digger and McKenzie streets and on the intersection of Sheridan and Aplin streets, both in the CBD. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said Queensland would receive $25.3 million over two years under the latest round of program funding. “The Federal Government’s record investment into upgrading roads is saving lives right across the nation,” Mr McCormack said. “As a regional representative, I know first-hand how road crashes causing death and injury affect smaller communities. “By specifically targeting road locations with a history of crashes for safety upgrades such as lighting, signage, traffic lights and roundabouts, the Black Spot Program reduces crashes causing injury and death at those sites by around 30 per cent."The Federal Government has committed $1 billion to the Black Spot Program from 2013–14 to 2022‑23 to improve road safety across the nation.
