Adani meeting to set approval timeframes

The State Government must ensure its Friday deadline brings to an end the delays and uncertainty for the final approvals on Adani's Carmichael mine, the Queensland Resources Council says. “The Premier said today she is fed up with the length of time this process is taking. Well so are Queenslanders," QRC chief executive Ian Macfarlane said. “The patience of regional Queenslanders will be severely tested if this week’s meeting doesn’t provide a resolution and a crystal clear timetable for final approvals." Meeting to take place tomorrow Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the Coordinator-General will line up a meeting between Adani Australia and the independent regulator tomorrow (Thursday) to finalise a timeline for outstanding approvals for the Carmichael mine. While Adani had faced an approvals process just like any other resources project in Queensland, it was clear the process was taking too long, she said. “The community is sick of it, I’m sick of it, everyone is sick of the delays,” Ms Palaszczuk said. “Everyone has had more than enough time to resolve these issues and for some reason that has not occurred. That all ends now.” The Premier has instructed the Coordinator-General to: Take a stronger oversight role across the Adani approvals process timeline;Report back by the end of the week setting out a clear plan for timeframes for the company and the regulator to adhere to; andSeek to ensure neither party is responsible for unnecessary delays in the approvals process. Anything more than two weeks 'another delaying tactic' But Adani Mining says that if approval of the outstanding management plans for Carmichael mine was not concluded in two weeks this was simply just another delaying tactic. Chief executive officer Lucas Dow said the company had been asking for clarity of process and timing from the Queensland Labor Government in relation to the approvals of our outstanding management plans for more than seven months now. “We are looking forward to receiving a call from the Coordinator General so we can meet first thing tomorrow morning, and at that meeting I will be seeking the timeline for approving the two outstanding management plans come to a conclusion within the next two weeks," he said. “Any timeframe for a decision on these outstanding management plans longer than the next two weeks is nothing more than another delaying tactic by the Queensland Labor Government designed to delay thousands of jobs for regional Queenslanders.
