Work progresses to polish up Cloncurry infrastructure

Cloncurry Shire Council is rolling out a raft of improvement projects, including a new cattle weighbridge at what is one of the busiest spelling yards in the state. Sensortronic Weighing and Inspection Australasia has a $260,000-plus contract to replace the weighbridge at the the Cloncurry Saleyard facility, with off-site fabrication kicking off this month and project completion expected in July. The project will see a new 12m steel deck cattle bridge installed at the yards. It be constructed parallel to the current weighbridge, minimising the cost and operation downtime. “Cloncurry is a transit hub for much of north Australia’s cattle, which pass through our facility, either on their way south or to ports in Townsville or Darwin," Mayor Greg Campbell said. "It is important to keep the saleyard facility up-to-date with the latest technologies and services so that operations remain efficient, effective, and competitive with other saleyard facilities in the State and northern Australia.” The council is also continuing to award component contracts for its grandstands project, and will roll out an extension of its footpath and cycle path network along Sir Hudson Fysh Drive. Having already awarded the contract to replace the main grandstand at the cricket oval, the council has awarded a further contract for the construction of new grandstands and shelters at Eddie Lee Field. Auzscot Constructions won the contract to erect eight new shaded grandstands, three bunkers for teams and officials, extra shade structures around the kiosk and footpath connecting spaces at Eddie Lee Field. This project is valued at $292,680 and is expected to be delivered by August 2023. It is supported by funding under Round 1 of the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund. Auzscot Constructions were also awarded the contract to continue the footpath along Sir Hudson Fysh Drive, from the Carl Katter Bridge to Hensley Drive. Funded under the Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program, the project is expected to be completed next mon th. Cr Campbell emphasised the importance of these projects for improving regional liveability. “Investing in sport and recreation infrastructure is a way to ensure we have the best prospects for attracting and retaining people to our region, and to ensure our residents have every opportunity to invest in a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
