President-elect Donald Trump’s ascendency is a year high among some delegates at the Noosa Mining Investor Conference, while the lows include the junior miner share prices which remain intransigent in the face of record high gold prices. Accountant Scott Waddell, who left Metallica Minerals during the Diatreme takeover, said it was still a hard place for juniors to raise money. Meanwhile, OreFox chief executive officer Warwick Anderson said the stubbornly high gold price and the change of government in Queensland were among the year’s highlights. Mr Anderson said he also believed market conditions were pointing towards more mergers and acquisitions. Meanwhile energy market strategist Dion Griggs from QPM Energy said market forces trending in 2024 would work in favour of energy producers. “I think it is a highlight for us and what we're seeing is that there's a general acceptance from government and from media and the general public that natural gas is a transition fuel and it's a way that we can help smooth out and firm renewable energy and make sure that Australians are receiving reliable energy for some time.,” Mr Griggs said. Trump's return makes access easier The return of Donald Trump to the White House would make it easier to do business, PolarX managing director James Berton said. The Perth-based company has copper-gold projects in Alaska and Nevada and Mr Berton said prospective ground was much more accessible in the US. He expected that access to get better under a Trump presidency, Dr Berton said. "I think that when he came in before he made a lot of changes to federal ground in the US, made it easier. Removed red tape. I think you'll see that again. So that kind of ground is what we call BLM. Anything under the Bureau of Land Management, I think your job's going to get easier again." On the downside, the lithium market collapse had hurt everyone, especially investors, he said. "... There was a big push in lithium explorers and it fell so fast and a lot of people are hurting from that. As a result, there's less money for them to reinvest or invest into other markets. "You may release great results, but if that retail demand isn't there for whatever reason, then you're not going to see the market capitalisation appreciate because the retailer is the one that drives your market cap."
