Tests confirm low-ash coal quality at Rolleston South
Coal quality test work confirms the Rolleston South project can produce a low-ash, export-quality coal product – a result Yari Minerals says significantly strengthens the commercial case for mining.
Yari (ASX: YAR) said the coal quality data underpinned the recently reported maiden indicated resource of 33.7Mt at Rolleston South, contributing to a total resource of 222.9Mt.
Mitra PTS undertook the testwork at its Gladstone laboratory, focusing on samples targeting the key “B” and “D” seams of the Bandanna Formation.

“The results confirm very low raw ash, low sulphur, and favourable washability characteristics,” Yari executive director Courtney Taylor said.
“Modelling indicates a 7–8 per cent ash product may be achievable at approximately 85 per cent yield through conventional processing.
“These outcomes, together with the recently established maiden indicated resource of 33.7Mt, strengthen the technical foundation of the project.

“With coal quality parameters now better defined, we are focused on evaluating disciplined development pathways and progressing engagement with potential counterparties within the Southern Bowen Basin.”
The company said the coal’s characteristics were comparable to products sold from nearby operations including Rolleston, Meteor Park South, Minerva, Kestrel, and Theodore mines.
The product could qualify as export-quality thermal coal or a semi-soft coking coal, subject to further confirmatory work.
