Deal backs $600m Mount Isa power project

Vast Solar has signed a joint development agreement with Stanwell Corporation for its $600 million North West Queensland Hybrid Power Project.

The agreement includes funding for a $10 million feasibility study for the proposed dispatchable renewable energy project in Mount Isa.

QUT research adds shine to $600m energy project

Vast Solar has joined forces with the Queensland University of Technology to help optimise its planned $600 million clean energy project in Mount Isa.

The North West Queensland Hybrid Power Plant will use concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) technology based on mirrors. This will be integrated with a solar PV system, a large-scale battery and gas engines.

Vast Solar said the new plant’s performance would be affected by the cleanliness of the solar mirrors, and the selection of the plant materials.

It is working with the QUT Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and Advanced Materials (AM) teams. . .

Mount Isa earmarked for $600m energy project

Renewable energy company Vast Solar has identified Mount Isa as the preferred site for a $600 million dispatchable power project.

The 50MW power plant would combine a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, large-scale battery storage and gas engines with solar-thermal power technology developed by the company.

The project is expected to create hundreds of jobs during a two-year construction phase and dozens of operational jobs.
