Blue Energy in hydrogen deal to fuel mine fleet

Stanmore’s Isaac Plains mining fleet at Moranbah may be running on hydrogen in future through a deal with gas proponent Blue Energy.

Blue Energy has executed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Stanmore Resources to supply hydrogen from future pilot production activities in its ATP 814 tenement in the Bowen Basin.

It follows an earlier deal between the parties to capture and market mine gas from Stanmore’s proposed Isaac Plains underground operation adjacent to Blue's ATP814. . .

Full steam ahead for Stanmore Coal

Stanmore Coal says its new Isaac Downs open-cut mine remains on track for development in the second half of this year, as it moves through the approvals process.

The $85 million Isaac Downs mining project near Moranbah is expected to create 250 jobs in construction.The operation would also provide ongoing long-term employment for workers at the company’s existing Isaac Plains mining complex, with 220 workers transferred to the new mine, in addition to about 80 new roles.

Fresh round of grants on the table from Stanmore

Round one for 2021 of the Stanmore Coal Isaac Plains Community Grant Program opened this month.

The program offers grants of up to $5000 for initiatives that highlight community health and wellbeing, support young people in the region, provide opportunities for Indigenous engagement and support the environment.

Gymnastics Moranbah was one of 17 local community organisations to receive funding as part of round two grants in 2020. The grant was used to introduce Fitter for Life classes for seniors over 50 years of age.

Gymnastics Moranbah Club manager Gabby Halverson said the classes were important to help seniors stay strong. . .

Stanmore builds on Isaac Downs coal resource

Stanmore Coal has increased the mineral resource estimate for its Isaac Downs project to 36 million tonnes as a result of exploration work over the past 18 months.

The announcement comes after the $90 million mining project near Moranbah was declared a prescribed project earlier this month, with construction tipped to begin in early 2021.

Stanmore said work undertaken for its bankable feasibility study had produced a recoverable open-cut mining reserve of 25.9 million tonnes, of which 22.3Mt was classified as proved and 3.6Mt as probable.

Copper dragline cable gives local charities a lift

Three Mackay charities have received a donation from Stanmore Coal after a discarded, 4.2 tonne copper dragline cable was sold for recycling, raising close to $8000.   

Isaac Plains dragline supervisor Dave Straw was the brains behind the idea, and selected suicide prevention group, Suicide and Spirituality; Special Olympics Mackay; and junior teams at the Mackay Magpies Northern Beaches AFL Football Club to receive the funds.

Special project status for Isaac Downs

Stanmore Coal's $90 million Isaac Downs mining project near Moranbah has been declared a prescribed project.

Regional Development Minister Glenn Butcher said the project would provide ongoing long-term employment for workers at the region’s existing Isaac Plains mining complex as well as new jobs and economic growth.

“Pending all necessary approvals and Stanmore Coal’s business plans, project construction could begin as soon as early 2021 with the mine possibly becoming operational in mid-to-late-2021," he said.

Strong mining rates for Stanmore Coal

Stanmore Coal has notched up another record, mining 3.02 million tonnes of coal (ROM) at the Isaac Plains complex, Moranbah, in the past financial year.

It marked a three per cent increase on the previous year, and included 638 tonnes mined in the June quarter and 813 tonnes in the previous quarter.

The company highlighted industry-leading dragline performance and the introduction of a CAT6060 excavator in November last year as key factors behind a record year for prime waste mining, with 41.3Mbcm shifted.
