The final investment decision (FID) to proceed with Barossa also kick-starts a $785 million investment in the Darwin LNG life extension and pipeline tie-in projects, which will extend the facility life for around 20 years.

Easternwell has mobilised a new ALRx workover rig as part of a 12-month contract for for Santos coal seam gas developments in eastern Queensland.
The new rig is one of three recently designed and built by Easternwell at its updated facility in Withcott, outside Toowoomba.
Easternwell general manager energy Kyle Koziol said the Advantage Light Rig Extra or ALRx was the latest in well servicing technology.
The ALRx integrates push-pull capability and a 50-tonne top-drive for increased rotary torque.

GHD is carrying out a concept study for Santos on the potential to de-carbonise natural gas at the source to make “zero-emissions” or “blue” hydrogen.

The package includes operating interests in Darwin LNG, Bayu-Undan, Barossa and Poseidon for $US1.39 billion ($AU2 billion).

Santos has joined forces with Shell in a 50-50 partnership to explore an area of about 400sq km near Surat.
The company said the area was immediately south of the Wallumbilla hub, meaning the joint venture could take advantage of existing infrastructure, therefore lowering development costs and accelerating the delivery of natural gas to the domestic market.

Santos has outlined its plans to grow gas production to more than 100 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe) by 2025, almost doubling current levels of production.

New Century Resources has sealed a gas deal with Santos as it works towards a start to production at the Century zinc site in the lower Gulf.
Worth about $100 million, the agreement represents the single largest contract award by the company to date, allowing for the supply of about 9PJ of gas over four years.

Santos has announced a $US1.5 billion writedown on the value of its GLNG project, saying low oil and gas prices are continuing to challenge the industry.
