Peak Downs Highway safety works kick off

Work is underway on $11.5 million worth of safety upgrades to the Peak Downs Highway, north of Clermont.

The project will see the Wolfang Rd intersection upgraded, along with three sections of the highway, between Tea Tree Creek bridge and Myall Creek crossing.

RoadTek is carrying out the work, which is expected to be completed later this year, weather permitting.

More roadworks roll out north of Townsville

BMD is set to begin work next month on a $29.2 million safety package on the Bruce Highway south of Ingham, focusing on a 7.3km stretch between Hechts Rd and Easter Creek.

The upgrades will generate almost 50 jobs for construction workers, local contractors and other businesses in the supply chain, according to Federal Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Minister Michael McCormack.

“This package of works at Bambaroo, about 90km north of Townsville, will deliver vital improvements to road safety on several sections of the highway, benefitting motorists travelling between Townsville and Ingham,” Mr McCormack said.

Rush on roadworks in plan to supercharge economy

More than $400 million in roadworks spending is being brought forward under a Queensland Government strategy to supercharge the economy through the COVID-19 recovery.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has unveiled the first stage of an economic reset for Queensland to push back against the impact of COVID-19.

The Queensland Economic Recovery Strategy includes a pledge to maintain infrastructure investment at more than $50 billion over the next four years and a $400 million Accelerated Works Program to deliver new road, bridge and pavement sealing works.

Decmil adds Bruce Highway works to order book

Decmil has been named as preferred tenderer for an $11.5 million contract for roadworks on the Bruce Highway between Rockhampton and Benaraby.

Work starts in May on the project, which will include road widening, centreline treatment, barrier installation, culvert replacement and rehabilitation.

The Queensland road project was among two contract wins the company announced this morning, along with a $25 million contract as part of the Forrestfield Airport Link project in Western Australia.

Roadworks strategies to keep jobs rolling

The State Government is looking at fast-tracking projects and boosting investment in the road network as it works to safeguard jobs during the COVID-19 crisis.

Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said he had recently convened the first in a series of high level meetings with civil contractors on the issue.

Austroads is developing a comprehensive suite of specifications for the construction of roads and bridges known as Austroads Technical Specifications.

The first seven specifications cover the supply of precast concrete pipes, polymer modified binders and geopolymer concrete as well as the repair and strengthening of concrete structures.

$120m road project kicks off at Mackay

Early works are kicking off on the $120.4 million Mackay Northern Access Upgrade project, led by CPB Contractors.

Boost for Black River highway project

State gears up for major roadworks push

Queensland's largest road upgrade program will get underway this year, the State Government says.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said shovels would hit the ground in 2020 on major projects along the length of the Bruce Highway as well as on billions of dollars’ worth of upgrades for the M1, Capricorn Highway, Ipswich Motorway and Smithfield Bypass.

Central Queensland's Walkerston Bypass road project has been ranked among the nation's top priorities when it comes to infrastructure investment.

Infrastructure Australia has added the Peak Downs Highway Realignment Project (Walkerston Bypass) to the Infrastructure Priority List after a rigorous assessment of the project’s business case.

Planning funds pave way for $359m highway works

Early scoping and planning activities will soon kick off for the $359 million Captain Cook Highway project, Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch says.

Mr Entsch said the Federal Government had approved an initial $4.5 million in funding to keep preparations for the project moving forward.

Shadforth to lead Port of Mackay road project

North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation has appointed Queensland-based construction company Shadforth for a $2.9 million road project to create a secondary access for the Port of Mackay.

NQBP chief executive officer Nicolas Fertin said work to extend the road from Edmund Casey Drive to Slade Point Road was starting this month and was expected to be completed by early 2020.

Council lays out Cairns roadworks plans after $9.15m grant

Cairns Regional Council will spend more than $9 million over the next five years on seven key road infrastructure projects.

They include a makeover for a busy road in Earlville, with plans for new footpaths, lighting and tree planting to achieve an attractive boulevard affect.

The council this week endorsed the $1.55 million upgrade of Balaclava Rd between Watson St and Mulgrave Rd, following on from Stage 1 upgrades on the western end of Balaclava Rd in 2018/19.
