Tourism tool leveraged to attract geo staff

What does mine rehabilitation and addressing the lack of interest in earth science careers got in common?

If you’re the Australasian Institute for Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), it’s tourism.  

The geoscience peak body is looking to engage another generation into the industry by promoting what they call ‘cultural landscapes’ including mining heritage, heritage trails and geography.

Most mines in north-west Queensland employing locally

The state government statistician’s office has released its first detailed analysis of the north west region’s resource industry workforce.

The new non-resident population report looks at the workforce characteristics and place of residence and comes from a survey which included all resource industry companies with existing operations and selected projects in the north west region in June this year.

Change of culture needed to staff the battery industry

Delegates to the Australian Battery Day conference have heard that the dearth of mechanical engineers taking up options in the industry has reached a low point.

It was now a matter of changing the culture. 

The Queensland University forum was told by QUT Faculty of Engineering lecturer Dr Veronica Gray that current engineering students and graduates had different values than other generations.

There were idiosyncratic trends among student sectors both complicating graduate availability and impacting diversity and inclusion rates said Dr Gray.
