Online forum to focus on coal resource estimation
Resource estimation in coal is the subject of the next Australian Institute of Geoscientists Queensland e-Forum this Thursday, August 20.
The forum poses the question: "why are we still using inverse distance weighting methods for coal resource estimation?"A recent review of JORC Code reports submitted by ASX listed companies over the past five years revealed that inverse distance weighting (IDW) remains the most popular method for modelling coal quality properties.
This is despite numerous academic papers and guidelines promoting the use of geostatistical methods as the preferred method, the AIG says.
