Townsville top FIFO airport for NQ resources workers

Townsville airport topped the stats for the FIFO workers in and out of North-West Queensland.

About 1,780 workers accounted for arrivals and departures in June last year.

That’s included in the latest report from the Queensland Government Statistician’s office.

The North West Region Industry Resources Industry Workforce report collates information on the characteristics and place of residence of the workforce as at June 2024. 

At the time, that figure in North-West Queensland was 8,620 employees and contractors.

It showed employee figures were more than twice the number of contractors and more resource workers. . .

Australian mining failed by media

The biggest issue the Australian mining industry faces is not environmental bonds, over-regulation or land access.

Australian gold industry experts Surbiton Associates director James Pollock said it was a lack of publicity that was letting the industry down.

On the final day of the Gold Coast Gold Conference, Mr Pollock said gold mining was worth around $40 billion per year to the national account.

Common-user infrastructure is firming up as a preferred option for junior miners wanting to bring their projects into operation in North-West Queensland.

Maronan Metals has a silver-lead-copper project 65km from Cloncurry.

The company has a $50 million market capitalisation, which falls short of where it needs to be to develop the mine.

Special economic zone gathers momentum

Regional lobby group Mount Isa Townsville Economic Zone (MITEZ) is looking to define the North West Minerals Province under a new lens.

The concept has been raised at a regional resilience forum organised by MITEZ in Mount Isa. The event was the first of three being held in centres along the Flinders Highway.

True North Copper is embarking on a fresh chapter, operating under the revised business strategy it has laid out as a blueprint after coming out of administration.

The IPL board announced today that Mr Neves de Moraes had been appointed chief executive officer and managing director.

Planning for Cyclone Jasper well underway on NQ mine site

Mine sites in north Queensland are battening down as Cyclone Jasper continues to track toward the coast. 

The category 4 system was located 1110 km east of Cairns this morning, moving south-west at 6 km/hour said the Bureau of Meteorology in its latest advice.

Bowen delivers quarter on quarter improvement

The only way is up for Bowen Coking Coal as outlined in its September quarterly report.

The Brisbane based company achieved its first production coal from Ellensfield South Mine adding to a 7.4% run of production (ROM) increase to 640Kt.

Total saleable coal production of 545Kt was up 17.1% on the previous quarter and sales of produced coal were 52.5% higher at 555Kt compared to the June quarter.

This included the first coking coal shipments from Broadmeadow East.
