Positive results for Diatreme

Diatreme Resources has further advanced its Galalar silica project, receiving positive first phase results from the detailed metallurgical testwork underway for the project’s definitive feasibility study.

The company said results to date had exceeded expectations, showing positive results for particle size distribution and the reduction of impurities using only simple screening and spiral separators. These are key factors in developing a high quality product for the solar PV. . .

Exploration forum highlights critical minerals role

An exploration showcase hosted by the Queensland Exploration Council and McCullough Roberston has illustrated the role critical minerals will play in lowering world carbon emissions, according to QEC chair Kim Wainwright. 

Ms Wainwright said it was an exciting time to be in the exploration sector, based on Queensland’s vast potential to provide the critical minerals and rare earths needed to manufacture everyday items such as smart phones, and renewable energy products such as wind turbines, electric cars, solar panels and batteries.

Queensland exploration riding high

Strong commodity prices are expected to help fuel a continued climb in exploration spending in Queensland, after a 77 per cent rise in the past three years, a peak group says.

Queensland Exploration Council chair Kim Wainwright said exploration expenditure in the state had been robust over most of the past 10 years, apart from a drop in 2015-17, but had been on a steep upwards trajectory since 2018.

Queensland primed to lead the way says peak group

Queensland is poised to become a global leader in the supply of a raft of key minerals needed to create renewable energy, says Queensland Exploration Council chair Kim Wainwright.

Speaking in the lead-up to the QEC’s annual exploration forum in Brisbane on February 19, Ms Wainwright said local exploration companies were busier than ever across all commodity sectors.

“We are seeing renewed exploration activity in the gas industry in particular, in fact, the September 2020 quarter was the highest exploration expenditure we had seen since 2015 levels,” she said.

Explorers maintain the faith in mining’s future

There's increasing exploration activity in Queensland across the coal, energy, base and precious metals sectors.

This was despite COVID and a drop in coal and petroleum prices, said Queensland Exploration Council (QEC) chair Kim Wainwright.

According to the QEC’s 10th annual exploration scorecard, launched online today, council members invested more than $640 million in the sector in 2019-20, with more than half expecting to increase or maintain activity or expenditure in Queensland over the next 12 months.

The figures revealed growing industry optimism in the state’s exploration industry, Ms Wainwright said.

Portal transports explorers to data riches

A Geological Survey of Queensland portal launched this week breaks new ground for explorers looking to work with data more efficiently, says Queensland Exploration Council chair Kim Wainwright.

The QEC, an arm of the Queensland Resources Council, has commended the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy for the launch of the GSQ Open Data Portal.

Part of the department’s Geoscience Data Modernisation Project, the portal brings together all data held by GSQ to a single simplified platform for industry. (Visit the portal HERE)
