Hutchies wins $12.5m Proserpine contract

The construction tender for the $18 million Proserpine Entertainment Centre has been awarded and the first sod is set to to be turned in September.

A Whitsunday Regional Council meeting today awarded J Hutchinson, trading as Hutchinson Builders, the $12.5 million construction contract for the PEC, which is expected to be completed by August next year.

Mayor Andrew Willcox said the project would create more than 40 jobs during the construction phase and the contractor had committed to prioritising local tradies wherever possible.

State bumps up Proserpine Entertainment Centre funds

The State Government is tipping in an extra $8 million for construction of Whitsunday Regional Council’s new Proserpine Entertainment Centre.

This will take the total Queensland Government contribution to $13.725 million in a project expected to cost about $18.725 million to complete.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the revitalised Proserpine Entertainment Centre was a key infrastructure project for the region and would create an estimated 50 jobs during construction.

“Once finished it will also provide further operational jobs and bring economic, social and cultural benefits to the whole of the Whitsundays," she said.
