Procurement tool attracts international interest

A procurement decision tool developed by QUT is set to go into wider use after the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) signed a licensing deal.

The OECD is using the tool on two major road projects in Norway with a view to promoting it as the Support Tool for Effective Procurement Strategy (STEPS) across its 38 member countries later this year.

Key industry groups involved in delivering the majority of the Australian Government's record $110 billion investment in infrastructure projects are calling for urgent reforms to the sector.

Mount Isa council outlines new procurement system

Mount Isa City Council is overhauling its procurement procedures and plans an update session for suppliers early next month.

The council is inviting all of its suppliers to register with its new procurement platform, Vendor Panel Marketplace.

In an announcement on the shift, the council said it was streamlining procedures – including the request-for-quotation (RFQ) and request-for-tender (RFT) process – in line with current State Government regulations and council policy.

Blockbuster Budget a cash splash for small businesses

The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Kate Carnell says the Federal Government’s 2020 Budget is one for the history books, with a record spend that will help lift small businesses out of the COVID crisis and provide a much-needed boost to economic confidence.

Foreign businesses take lion’s share, says AOC

Five out of Queensland’s six biggest transport infrastructure projects have been awarded to foreign-owned construction companies in the past five years, an Australian advocacy group says.

The Australian Owned Contractors Let Us Build Queensland Campaign today released figures highlighting the extent of foreign domination of the local construction industry.

The Australian Owned Contractors (AOC) group is targeting Queensland politicians in a campaign to fight millions of dollars from public infrastructure projects flowing to foreign-owned construction companies.

The seats of Townsville and Mundingburra are firmly in their sights as the six-week campaign will focus the blowtorch on marginal seats ahead of the State election.

Extra voice in Australian contractors lobby group

Australian Owned Contractors (AOC) has welcomed specialist rail infrastructure company Martinus as a member of the group, which aims to fight for a fairer deal for homegrown mid-tier contractors on major public projects.

Martinus delivers medium to large scale rail infrastructure and systems across the country and in New Zealand, with current projects including Adani's Carmichael Rail Network.

New guide to maximise local opportunity

A Queensland industry group has developed a guide to better define the 'local' when it comes to local content.

The Queensland Local Content Leaders Network (QLCLN) has also released a six-tiered model of procurement where the priority is on the immediate local or natural economic zone of a region. (See table below)

Procurement workshops for Mount Isa businesses

Mount Isa City Council will host procurement and purchasing workshops this month, reflecting its commitment to supporting local businesses and contractors.

The new Townsville stadium is at centre stage in a dispute over what's described as poorly implemented procurement policy.

A rally of more than 4000 construction workers in Brisbane passed a resolution calling for an urgent inquiry into the failings of the state government’s much vaunted, ‘Best Practice Principles’.

Procurement roadshow for Western Downs

Western Downs Regional Council is running a Regional Procurement Roadshow next week to give local businesses a hand up ahead of the release of its 2016/17 work packages.
Mayor Paul McVeigh said the council was committed to buying locally and providing local businesses every opportunity to supply goods and services across the Western Downs.
