Council looks to fast-track Mount Peter water project

Cairns Regional Council has applied for a $15 million interest-free loan to bring forward construction of water infrastructure to service new lots in the fast-growing Mount Peter area.

Construction of a water reservoir for Mount Peter was planned to start in the 2023-24 financial year.

But the surge in demand for residential land in the area has prompted the council to look at starting construction within the next 12 months.

The project includes construction of an 8 megalitre water reservoir, installation of trunk water lines, a pumping station and chlorination building.

Kroymans to kick off major masterplanned project

Kroymans Developments has plans afoot for a major masterplanned residential development in the Mount Peter area outside Cairns.

Property Shop Cairns sales and marketing director Ben Johnston says the developer will be putting the project out to tender, looking to employ a local civil construction company, as soon as council approvals come through.

Pinecrest will include more than 800 residential lots, more than 9ha of space earmarked for potential aged care development and a number of medium density sites for uses such as child care.
