EQ Resources is on the verge of a five-fold increase in tungsten concentrate output at Mount Carbine as it prepares to tap higher grade ore through open pit mining.

The company this week announced it had secured the required environmental authority to mine the the Andy White pit at the Far North Queensland operation.

Federal backing for Mount Carbine processing advances

EQ Resources has attracted $600,000 in Federal funding to expand Mount Carbine’s advanced technologies flowsheet for tungsten recovery.

The cash comes from the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre via the $30 million Commercialisation Fund.

EQ Resources said its own investment combined with partners and AMGC would reach $1.97million for work to commercialise industrial-scale operations for an advanced minerals processing flowsheet developed for the Mount Carbine expansion project.

Technologies to be incorporated include advanced XRT ore sorting technology from TOMRA Sorting as well as hyperspectral imaging sensors developed by Plotlogic.

EQ Resources has launched a new diamond drilling campaign to upgrade the open pit and underground mining resource at its Mount Carbine tungsten operation.

The first stage of the 2022 drilling program comprises a six-hole drill campaign as a follow up to the successful resource definition program last year.

Previous drill results formed the basis for the company's bankable feasibility study (released in December), demonstrating sound economics for the planned Mount Carbine expansion.

Far North Queensland's Mount Carbine site has clocked up a bumper tungsten concentrate output as it continues upgrades, including power line works to support 24-hour ore sorting operations.

EQ Resources said a successful debottlenecking strategy and investment targeting the crushing, screening and XRT sorting capacity contributed to the production of more than 40 tonnes of 50 per cent WO3 concentrate in December.

EQ Resources appoints team to drive mining plan

EQ Resources has appointed Brisbane-based JukesTodd to lead a bankable feasibility study in what it describes as a major step towards mining at Mount Carbine in Far North Queensland.

The feasibility study will assess the potential for an open pit operation prior to going underground to target the significant resource at the historical tungsten mine.

The proposed expansion of operations at Mount Carbine would also include scale-up of the XRT sorting plant for the processing of the mineralised stockpiles as a primary bulk feed source of up to 1,000,000 tonnes per annum.

EQ Resources has kick-started a feasibility study for expanding production from the Mount Carbine tungsten mine with a drilling program near the site's historical open pit.

Contractor DDH1 Drilling is carrying out the six-hole drill program at the Far North Queensland site.

EQ Resources says its geology team is targeting the identification and potential for a high-grade zone sitting immediately below the open pit.

Mount Carbine owner EQ Resources is advancing preparations to reopen the 430m long historical decline at the Far North Queensland tungsten mine.

Speciality Metals is re-assaying historical drill core in work towards a potential underground mine at Mount Carbine.

And it has started talks with he Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and contractors setting out detailed planning for reopening the decline at the site for further underground testing.

A mine waste transformation project in Far North Queensland has won a grant of $220,000 under the Queensland METS Collaborative Projects Fund.

The work is happening at Speciality Metals International's Mount Carbine tungsten operation.

Joint venture partners Speciality Metals and Cronimet have been trialling sensor-based ore sorting to extract +10mm to 40mm high-grade tungsten particles from low-grade waste rock at the site. A retreatment operation extracting tungsten from old tailings is also underway.

Far Northern quarry steps up a notch

Speciality Metals plans to modernise its Mount Carbine quarry over the next few months as it expands production and explores new products.

Interim Chief Executive Officer, Kevin MacNeill, said the company was planning to incorporate an X-ray Transmission (“XRT”) Sorter into the quarry to extract high grade tungsten material from the crushed aggregate.

Along with this, some new equipment will be purchased to modernise the quarry.

It comes as Mount Carbine Quarrying Operations gears up to fill a $4 million purchase order from Bama Civil for the supply of various quarry materials.
