Funds flow for Lakeland irrigation study
The first instalment is heading to the bank to back a $10 million investigation for the Lakeland irrigation project in Far North Queensland.
State Natural Resources Minister Anthony Lynham said Regional Development Australia Far North would this week receive the first payment from a National Water Infrastructure Development Fund (NWIDF) grant to develop the business case.
A Lakeland Irrigation Area feasibility study last year found the proposed scheme has the potential to expand irrigated agriculture by around 8000ha and support about 1100 long-term jobs.
RDA Far North is scheduled to complete the business case and environmental investigations by late. . .
